Do you have a favorite jello- cream cheese concotion like recipe?
I see a lot of them in various combinations but have not tried one.
Do you have a special one you make for Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays you would recommend?
One my grandmother always made, but I have no idea of its name; she called it pear salad
16 oz can pear halves
1 3 0z pkg lime gelatin
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup boiling water
1 tbsp lemon juice
6 oz cream cheese
1/8 tsp ginger
Drain the pears and reserve 3/4 cup of the juice. Coarsely dice the pears and set them aside. Dissolve the geltin and salt in boiling water. Add pear syrup and lemon juice. Measure 1 1/4 cups into an 8 x 4" loaf pan. Chill till set about 1 hour. Soften the cream cheese till creamy. Slowly blend in remaining ingredients and beat till smooth. Blend in ginger. Stir in the pears and spoon over the setr gelatin in the pan. Chill till firm about 4 hours. Unmold and garnish. Serve with mayonnaise. makes 6 servings
My favorite is one my grand-mother used to make me every year from Christmas, you put a layer of green jello (thicker than normal in a pan- mold of a christmas tree is really pretty) then you mix up a layer of a cream-cheese mixture with pineapple in it for a center layer, once the first layer sets up you put the cream cheese layer next). Then you make a red jello layer and put it on top - refrigerate until well set and serve. Gorgeous and delicious. It is called Congealed ribbon salad. I am at work and dont' have the exact recipe with me. Will try to remember to bring it and put it on here. Or you could probally do a search and find it on-line. It is delicious!
