Please wait until the new one comes out. A lady on another board just paid $108.00 for a copy on e-bay and the original only cost $29.95. I got mine on sale at Best Buy for $19.95. She was just sick about paying that much and then finding out that it was way too much.

Hi, Ladies!
I am a new owner of MasterCook and have to say it has already become an obsession. It is simply the neatest thing I've ever found!
I just wanted to add that I got my MasterCook 6.0 from half.ebay.com for just a few dollars (about $15.00 w/shipping). I just got 'Cooking Light' off ebay for $6.49 total w/shipping, so there are occasional deals to be found. Keep your eyes open on ebay and you might grab a deal. Be careful though, I did see a Cooking Light one go for $105.00 the other day~ YIKES
Plus, there are several MasterCook email loops you can join on yahoo groups. I have had so much fun learning and using this software; I would do a commercial for them

I'm with everyone...MasterCook. Just go to Target, Staples, Office Depot etc. and look for MasterCook. That's what it is called!

I am doing exactly what you want to do too.

And there are MANY MasterCook groups at Yahoo!Groups where you can get more recipes!

I have the Food & Wine edition (from the magazine), Cooking Light edition (from the magazine) and MasterCook 6.0. They are great!

Here's the deal on MasterCook. Yes, it's been discontinued, but there are still plenty of copies around. See, they released it in a number of versions, and they are all almost the same, EXCEPT the more recent - and expensive - ones have this enormous low-fat recipe library included. If you want that, fine, but the earlier versions do the job just as well for a lot less money. Go to eBay - the auctions - and put Mastercook in the Search. When you see the expensive ones, $30 and $50 and up... don't bother with those, look for tyhe $2-8 dollar ones, those are the earlier versions without the big low-fat recipe file.

I'm on a low-carb diet, i wouldn't use those recipes anyway. Besides, you can get a gazillion recipes for free online anyway.

You ladies have been fantastic. As for as the recipe files, I'm not so sure that I'd be using that many of their recipes but rather the organizational aspects of the program mostly to organize my own recipes and meal plans. I'm cajun and our recipes, IMHO, are different from the rest of the world. LOL Most aren't found in recipe books but rather handed down from generation to generation. I want to preserve these for my children and their children and their children........................

Thanks for all the wonderful recommendations and hints about pricing and program upgrades. I will certainly go back and check out ebay auctions again. In other words, to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, the upgrades are only on the recipe files and not on the program functions available or to repair problems within the program, right?

The MasterCook, version 8.0 is what is premiering in August.

You can find the difference in the Versions on the second URL that I posted. Version #6 has added some things it does that the previous versions do not.

OK. I downloaded Now You're Cooking to try and so far I like it. I'm going to enter some more recipes today and have it compile the meal plan and shopping list. Like EJaginLa, I am more interested in compiling my own recipes and not using theirs. It comes with a few and then you can load a ton more, as well as get them online. It will use the MasterCook format, as well as others. But I am not that interested. I'll let you know how it goes as I explore further.
