EcoSMARTís new DEET-free insect repellent

  • Safe, effective, all-natural formula
keeps bugs off kids and adults for hours

Introducing EcoSMARTís new DEET-free insect repellent

ATLANTA (June 25, 2008) ó Just in time for outdoor entertaining and July 4th picnics, EcoSMARTís new 6-ounce organic insect repellent will help American families enjoy a DEET-free, mosquito-free summer this year. Harnessing Natureís own defense against insects ― essential oils ― EcoSMARTís non-toxic, botanical skin repellent is safe for use on children of all ages, and works as effectively as DEET and synthetic chemicals.

A revolutionary plant based formula is the secret to the efficacy of EcoSMARTís insect repellent. Unlike conventional DEET-based formulas, EcoSMARTís patented technology uses 100 percent food grade ingredients to keep mosquitoes, gnats and more away for hours. It has a fresh, natural scent, is non-oily and dries quickly. In addition to select Wal-Mart and Save-A-Lot stores, EcoSMARTís insect repellent can be found online at www.ecosmart.com.

ďWe recommend that parents choose an insect repellent that is as non-toxic as possible, as well as protecting children by reducing the amount of exposed skin that must be treated with repellent,Ē said Christopher Gavigan, CEO/Executive Director of the nonprofit organization, Healthy Child Healthy World, which offers credible information and expertise to help create healthy environments for families and children. ďDEET is known to have adverse health effects when overused, especially on children. EcoSMARTís new botanical repellent is an effective alternative to DEET-based products,Ē he noted.

Parents can find additional tips to keep mosquitoes from biting at www.healthychild.org, including:

∑ Remove sources of standing water, such as old tires, bird baths, and planters.
∑ Use goldfish or freshwater minnows to control larvae in ornamental pools.
∑ Plant scented geraniums, lemon thyme, marigold, tansy, citrosa plants, sweet
basil, rosemary and/or sassafras near your home.
∑ Use screens on windows and doors, and keep them in good condition.
∑ Turn on the air conditioner in place of opening windows and doors.
∑ Stay inside at dusk and early morning when mosquitoes are most active.
∑ Do not use scented products, which attract mosquitoes.
∑ Wear lightweight, long sleeves and pants.
    ∑ Use the appropriate repellent.

EcoSMARTís insect repellent joins a growing family of botanical pesticide products recently introduced by the company. Three new 14-ounce aerosols (Ant & Roach Killer, Flying Insect Killer, and Wasp & Hornet Killer) can now be found at select Wal-Martís, Albertsons, Safewayís, Save-A-Lotís, Ralphís and other major retailers. EcoSMARTís aerosols can also be found on-line at www.ecosmart.com.

Targeting specific neural pathways in insects that regulate movement, behavior and metabolism, the formulations result in quick immobilization and/or knockdown followed by the insectís death. Because these neural pathways do not exist in mammals, the formulations are safe to use around children, animals, birds and fish.

  • I'll be testing out the insect repellent this weekend at the camper. I don't have any wasps right row, but will report on this when I have the need
  • I still haven't tested the wasp killer, and I'm actually afraid to now as I don't want to get stung!

I did try the insect repellant and was quite disappointed. It worked fine for the first 5 or 6 minutes, but after that the mosquitoes were feasting on me and my neighbor. I gave it several tries, about 5 or 6 different times over the weekend. My kids and husband tried it too. Unfortunately we had the same result each time. I wouldn't recommend this spray for repelling mosquitoes.

Will let you know when I try the wasp killer.
