Good for you Vivian in getting your mail if a little late, but bad for the poor postman who was mugged! Glad they caught the culprits.

Kathy,
They offered a large reward for the capture and sucessful prosecution of those involved. Considering what they did, you can be assured it was one of their friends that turned them in for the money! By the way, they found out no one sends money through the mail these days, so it wasn't even worth the price of next 15 to 20 years of their life. The girl was 14 and the young man was 16yr. Such a waste!

Oh my goddness the 15yo is saying good bye to a good portion of the best years of their lives and the 20yo, sheesh.
We're told to put padlocks on our mailboxes so mail (identity theft)can't be stolen out but half the time the postie leaves our mail hanging out the front and we have a large box if only he's put the mail in longways it would fit no problem! No padlock helps that.
I had xmas padded envies left beside the box as they didn't want to reach around to put it in the box even though it fitted ... I'm not a postperson so maybe I'm being unrealistic LOL

No Kathy you are not being un realistic at all. If it was me I would have a talk with my mail person. We are very blessed we have 2 great ones the regular lady and the sub. We are also blessed to live on the street we do. Mail/pkgs are left on our porches or by the mail box all the time if they don't fit in etc. NO one bothers anything.
What a shame a 14 yr and 16 yr old. They are going to learn a big lesson.

Each and every card I received was unique and appreciated, even if I didn't get a chance to thank you individually.

That's too bad about the teens mugging a postman. They probably didn't realize they were committing a federal crime but learned the hard way. Hopefully, others will learn from their example and think twice before attacking a mailman.

Apricot, They knew it was a federal crime, but did it anyway thinking they were minors and could get by. NOt so, here as the feds are cracking down because of all the violent crimes here. One of the networks has a program called "The First 48", which is following the detectives who investigate murders in large cities. We even have a fan club for our detectives cuz this city has been on so often! The saddest thing for me is every child has potential for greatness, but the attitude here is put your hand out and grab what you want and boo hoo if your caught.
Really wish we could move, but dh's job is here and he doesn't want to commute for an hour. Crime happens everywhere, but you don't have to live in the middle of it.
We had another new mail carrier today, and I got someone else's mail again. I'll drive around and put it in their box later. Sure am going to be glad to see our usual mail carrier!

Ooops I got the years for their crime and their ages mixed up.

There are only 10 houses in our cul-de-sac and the postie still gets our numbers mixed up LOL

if these teens knew it was wrong but didn't think they would do anything hopefully they learned a lesson, along with others that may thing the same thing.
What a shame but they got what was coming to them, yet you wonder what are they being taught at home.
Hopefully prison will wake them up and they bcome better out of a ugly situatiaon.

We have a wonderful mail main, the one that subs for him, not to crazy about her, but our reg. mail main liked him. But knew when he took this route he had big shoes to fill vs the old mail main... but he passed away and this one new step in a few yrs ago. He doing a gret job.

Bilby I am still trying to figure out why you got yellow tape on your christmas pkg.

I just took down all the christmas cards yesterday.. still trying to play catch up from being so sick..
I'll keep them out and pray for each one before putting them away for next yr.

Thanks again for all the christmas card and making it a a fun time again this yr.. and no 2 were alike.

Don't worry about it Barbara, there was an ornament that both Meg and I rec'd and hers was opened but mine wasn't, I guess it depends on who is on at customs that day and how much mail needs to be checked.
To be honest 3/4 of the packages (boxes and padded envies) sent from the US are opened before coming to my home and 99% of those have nothing taken, they are just checked. I should say it's not just US but overseas in general just most of it comes from the US.
