getting up early

Abear: Her school starts early, 7:15. I try to drive her when I can! The funny part is , the high schoolers don't catch their bus til 8 and their school starts at 9!!! (It was done this way because of traffic)

My children are now grown, but I remember well the struggle to get them up and out in the mornings. I, too, had one who jumped up and one who was comatose.

I used to go into the bedroom "tooting" Revelle and then start to sing "Oh How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning!" I did this hoping to keep the atmosphere light and happy. There is nothing worse than starting the day with everyone grumpy. They would moan & groan, I would also ask if they wanted a wet washcloth to help them rouse themselves.

It worked most of the time. I also started extra early so they wouldn't feel rushed and had time to really wake up and face the day.

Best advice - stay cheerful and try not to get into arguments. When they mutter "It's not fair", I used to tell them "no one ever said life was fair"

Good luck.

Mary

I think you have to rethink your schedule. Your kids (IMO), are up wayyyy too late for their ages. I'd skip the gym routine, and take them home for their supper and homework/getting ready for bed. 8:00 is too late for dinner, for these little duffers. Start putting them to bed 15 minutes earlier every night until they start to wake up on their own in the mornings and are not bears to get out of bed.

When they start waking up cheerfully and willingly in the morning, then THAT is the time they should be going to bed in the evening.

Can't skip the gym, Doc's advise to exercise 3times a week.

As of this moment, I got straight to the gym from work. This way they are not too tired. Last night, I said to my son "lets finish your homework tomorow and make sure when I say get up that means up". He responded that he will wake himself up and he did.

I realised, this has nothing to do that he cannot get up early it is that he can get away with it.

Anybody here uses time out/timer?

my timer

I set it for two minutes and when it rings they need to be out of the bed.

Having two boys they always compete.

I used to use a CD player, when the alarm rings it plays their music. It work well at first and then they just ignores it by moving to a different room.
