"All About Me" Crafts & Activities

Arts & Crafts

Type up a sheet with a bunch of questions to describe child such as height,
weight, eye color, hair color, moms name, etc. help child fill it out its fun to see
what all the answers are.

Trace child's body on large butcher paper child adds features.

We had the children bring in pictures of their family. We then made a house and
cut the windows so they would open up. We put the pictures in the windows.
The kids could write on or decorate their house however they chose.

Talk to the parents/guardian and let them know about the theme and ask them if
they could let their child(ren) bring single pictures of different people in their
family to make a family tree. You can talk to the kids while making it explain to
them about them and their family.

Make a "me" cube.

Using a cube template have the children decorate (draw or write depending
on age) five of the sides using some of the following ideas...

My Favorite foods
My family
My Pets
The pets I would like to own.
My house
My favorite toy
Things I like to do
My friends
My Favorite colors

Decorate the last side with a photo of the child. Stick the cube together
and hang them from the roof.

Photo Album
Help a child understand the relationship they have by making them a photo
album which has photos of the people they are close to and add the persons
name and relationship to the child. E.g. Cousin Sarah. You might like to have
their name at the top of the photo and their relationship to the child at
the bottom.

Show and Tell
During our "all about me" theme I send home a "show and tell" box with two
children per day. They have to bring in something that relates to them, but they
have to be able to explain it themselves!! It's great fun to see how creative the
children and parents can be.

Language Development
Talk about what everyone has, yet can be different. (All have eyes: different
colors, ears: different sizes &/or earrings and smile: different # of teeth).
Give each child a mirror. Sit in a circle. Hold mirrors up & compare features.
Start with one child, tell them to name one thing they see: freckles, green eyes,
and red hair. Go to next children in the circle all with the same question. Talk
about features, similarities & differences. Make up your own questions & games.

Songs & Fingerplays

And NAME is friends with every one
Let's all move over for her(him)

Move over, move over
And quick as a riggidy gig
We'll always move over for NAME
'Cause NAME is SO O O big, SO BIG!

This is what we sing in the preschool room. If we sing about the infants or
toddlers we change the last line to be Cause NAME is not very big.

We love you NAME
Oh yes we do
We love you NAME
We really do
We love you NAME
That's true
Oh NAME, we love you.

When we say this chant the chosen child can dance or move any way they
want to.
