Ideas and Tips for Prayer Journaling

Looking over our "Joys and Concerns" and the "Prayer Partners/Prayer Chain" threads, I noticed alot of conversation re the Prayer journaling that some of us do. I thought this would be a nice touch to add for our fellow prayer warriors so.....here is a thread where we can share about our journals and how we have them set up.

Some my use a sheet of paper and write down names of those they are praying for.

Others, like myself, purchased a special blank book to create the journal. Whatever your method of prayer journaling is, please share!

If you are considering prayer journaling and don't know where to begin or how, it is my prayer that you will find some helpful ideas to inspire you.

I look forward to hearing about your journals and I think this will be a fun little site. Get creative and let's see what you have done in journaling. If you have a way to do it, please feel free to post pics of your journals. Will be posting mine and a journal that I am making a special fabric cover for for a young girl turning 16 next month. So let's see YOUR ideas!!

Happy Journaling!
Lynette

Here is the journal I am using at this time. Double Spiral Journal, in expensive from Wal-Mart. Has built in on the back cover an elastic strap that comes out around the front cover to hold the book closed.

I made a label "My FamilyCorner Prayer Journal" and stuck on the front.

Here is what I use on the inside. On the side, you will see pink, yellow and blue flags sticking out. Each one has a name on it. On every sixth page I placed a flag and since the pages are lined, that gave me perfect even spacing for my flags They are made by "Post-It". Then I use either a blue or a black pen to write in the entry and I leave a few lines between each request. This page is page one of bar_bar's requests. One of those received an answer so I have a red pen that I wrote my answer in. Makes it easier when flicking through the pages looking for responses to our prayers.

On Barbara's (and everyone else's) I wrote at the top of page one for her, her screen name, her name and state. Then below that I start with DATE REQUEST POSTED, and then I copy in short form, what is posted. Leave spaces and when I see a praise/answer to that request posted, I take my red pen, write just below the request the date and the answer as is posted.

Hope this is clear. If not, send me your questions.

Happy journaling!

Lynette

oh I liked the idea of putting the state down too.. a good idea.

with my it a regular store bought prayer jounal, one of the message boards groups i was involved with a lady was giving away prayer journal, I couldn't believe it put I respond to her and she send me seveal... I felt so blessed by this...
so I am using that for my jouranl, I do put the screen name down... most I recognize by seeing their screen name and others I write there real name, but need to do both as I can get confused at time.. then I write down the date or try to do that, and thier prayer request...

many times I wake up and start praying for them, and I do general prayers for all FC members, othr times I tell GOD you know who needs prayers. then I also have prayed by calling out there names and pray over them. Either way GOD hears and knows the needs but HE does like it when we call out by name that person to HIM..... just like he knows all of our needs but wants us to name them one by one to HIM as well.

I have my prayer jounal next to my computer desk.....

do like the one you have layed out Lynette. YOU are a true prayer warrior.... and thanks for starting this one. may others respond as well.

GOD BLESS

Hi Lynette and Barbara,

Thanks so much for the wonderful ideas. I have recently bought a journal very similar to the one Lynette has. It is spiral bound with many pages, very small ruled lines(so I can write a lot of requests!) and a hard cover. I bought it at my local Christian bookstore and am very pleased that it is functioning so well.

Lynette, you have really been my inspiration with this! Thank you, hon! Your support with this is very much appreciated! I am hoping my journal will become indispensible in my life!

I discovering Post It flags a number of years ago and use them all the time. I like to use them as bookmarks when I am reading a book as well. I will put them to good use with my prayer journal too!

Are you requesting prayers for yourself as well? I think it is important that we make our requests known to the Lord, for ourselves as well. Do you record other things in your journal? I am planning to record my sin confessions, requests, praise and thanks, etc.

Jenna

This is so fun! I hope to see this thread grow with lotz of wonderful ideas for prayer journaling.

No, I do not journal my personal prayers in this particular book. I have a seperate book that I journal personal things in. It is where I can really poor out my heart to Christ and keep it private at the same time. I love to show other women, however, how their journaling can produce response and so I feel better showing them the one I've posted (my FC book) and let them read how God is working in each of your lives. Does that make sense? My personal journal is just that. VERY personal - between me and God!

This is so exciting! Please tell others to stop in here and share. Glad you, Jenna and Barbara, are enjoying this thread.

Hugs
Lynette

Hi Lynette,

Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. Your idea about having a different journal for your personal prayer sounds really good to me. I hadn't thought about showing others my prayer journal, but come to think of it, I might like to bring it to church to jot things down and it would be nice to have my privacy.

I will start looking for a second journal!

Love,
Jenna

Great idea, thanks for the suggestions. The next time I have a few spare dollars I will "splurge" and pick out a pretty prayer journal notebook and some tabs to put on it! I have been pretty spacey lately and this will help me to keep names and screen names with the prayer requests and avoid confusion.
