Caçoila (Portuguese-style shredded meat)

This recipe was originally posted in September 2007 What’s for Dinner by dval
Caçoila (Portuguese-style shredded meat)

1½ lbs stew meat (beef)
¼ lb blade meat (pork)
1 lb lard (NEVER increase qty)
1 med onion
2 cloves garlic
2 bay leaves
¼ T. *Allspice
1 t. *Paprika
2 t. *red pepper (wet)-- crushed red peppers. The brand I use is Pastene, usually found in the ethnic food section.
1 Avg. can diced tomatoes
½ c. red table wine
*add these according to taste

Mix in crockpot cook on low overnight. Take out bay leaves, shred meat with a potato masher. Serve in Bulkie rolls.
**To make a larger batch: Do not double recipe!
Double meat and increase everything else (except lard) by half.
If you can't find bottled crushed red peppers, you can make your own: Remove the stems, but not the seeds, from 2 or 3 large medium-hot red peppers. Place them in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a metal blade. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of salt. Whir until blended.
