Homemade food for pets

I feed my pets a homemade diet. I started them with the BARF diet but found that combining that and a cooked diet is just as good.

As stated in a previous post, BARF is a diet fed to our pets because their kind ate raw meat in the wild. So we try to simulate that in our homes by feeding them raw meats, organs, and vegies.

Feeding a homemade (cooked) diet is going back to the times our great+ grandparents fed their pets.

My dog (keeshond/malamute mix) eats leftovers (if they are not too spicy) and eats the meals I make for my pets. My two cats are only allowed the meals...their stomachs are too sensitive for leftovers.

Jeannie,
Shadow has sezures and the vet thinks it's because of the food colorings and additives in store brought.

I feed my dog Rachel Ray's beef dog food and he loves it. We tried several other brands and he just didn't seem to like them. So far so good with this new one. He seems to be a happy camper and empties his dish.

I am going to try this recipe:
6 cups water
1 lb ground meat
2 cups rice
1 tsp rosemary
16 oz vegetables
some tomato water is good to add
some pumpkin is great also

I have to feed sugar free dog food and it has to be dry . So Old Yeller meets their needs and they get a sugar free supplement of canned dog food when we have extreme cold weather. They also get eggs, rice and chicken when I cook it for them. I buy soup bones at the butcher and they have so much meat on them I could cook them and grind the meat for stuffed peppers or use it in soups, but the dogs get it all. They only get them once a month.
