Any idea why 1 kitten does this?

We have 4 kittens, born August 1st. They are all eating kitten food and using the litter box. Except 1 little girl kitty will only eat the food out of your hand, while the other 3 eat right out of the dish. Anyone have any clue as to why she is like this?

Do all the cats eat out of the same bowl at the same time? Is this kitten the smallest one of the group? Just a guess, but maybe she is getting edged out by the bigger kittens.

Yes they all eat from the same bowl and she is the smallest. She is also timid and shy. I guess that is a possibility. My dh thought she might not be ready but all the others eat like pigs and she does eat when we let her eat out of our hand. Thanks for the idea, you probably are right since she's the tiniest maybe she just needs to get a little bigger. Also, I am gonna try feeding her out of her own bowl in a seperate room and see how that goes. Good idea, I never thought of them chasing her away. Thanks.

I agree with Joy. The smallest, youngest cat usually gets whatever is leftover--if anything. Try feeding her after the others are done or in another room in her own bowl.

We had a kitten that did that and it was because she was pushed away by the others and was afraid to eat with them we fed her seperated from the others and she wound up being the bigest and the strongest, its worth a try good luck

Well just wanted to let you all know that Danielle is eating out of a bowl now! I took everyones advice and we fed her seperately at first. Now, we are feeding her with the others but we watch them and when she tries to leave[if being shoved out] we keep putting her back. It's a slow process but it's working! Thanks girls!

Way to go Tara! We have the same problem with our cats. The youngest to get squeezed out when we had 2 older cats. She sat patiently until they were finished and then she would get her share. We made sure she got a treat. It must be a pack thing or whatever felines do.
