My hero..is Cesar Millan aka "the dog whisperer"
I agree that he is amazing! I had watched to see if he would ever address this issue on his show and he hasn't. But, I am sure that is because this isn't a behavioral issue that has caused any problems other than the fact his "Mommy" wonders about it. lol

Thanks for everyones input. I had never thought about Poncho showing dominance. He has always "humped" while they were both playing, so I never made that connection.

The vet told me it has nothing to do with a sexual thing; top dog is the main reason they do it(no pun intended) LOL.

I think that is why I was wondering about the behavior as I thought it was a sexual thing. The reasons I have heard here make sense though.

The baby is now doing it to his little bed, but I figure it is because he is almost sexually mature so I haven't been concerned about it. I guess I learn something new every day. lol

lol When I had a daycare center in the early 80s, I noticed the children were all giggling while they were watching "something" outside. It turned out that the neighbor's dogs were, well, you know. The children said, "Look! They dance funny!" I just laughed and encouraged them to get back to playing.

A few minutes ago, Bonte was trying to play with Poncho. Poncho played back and then the humping started. Then, Poncho got mad and tore into Bonte and the playing stopped. This was the first time since the first reply to this thread that this has happened. I was able to study it this time. It does seem to be a dominance thing.

Poor Poncho's eye seems to be bothering him. If it doesn't get better soon, we may have to take him to the Vet. DH and I wonder if maybe all the playing Bonte tries to engage Poncho in if maybe his little puppy nails or teeth may have scratched his eye. Poor baby. It must be tough having a full-of-energy puppy all over you so many hours a day! lol

Debora, that is how we got our new dog Jack. The home we adopted him from had a 10 yo rottweiler. They got Jack as a puppy (from Tennessee - he was a hurricane puppy) and Jack is high energy and would constantly try to play with the rottweiler. Well the older dog would take if for only so long then turn and pin Jack. They figured Jack deserved to be in an only dog home as their rottweiler needed a bit of peace. Lucky for us as we love Jack - humping and all LOL.

Our neighbors also rescued a rottweiler and she's a hurricane dog too. She is a sweetie. I don't know about the humping though. She is sort of heavy so I think she is too grounded for that activity!

Ellen, you should see Poncho! He looks like a little pig! He has gotten worse since Jet-Bo died and I am guessing that the mourning and stress of his death made him more obese.
