Top 10 Dog Friendly Cities in North America

If you’re considering taking your canine companion on vacation with you this summer, you might want to consider one of these top-10 cities, as rated by, as the best places to visit.
  1. Vancouver, BC—Numerous beaches, parks and outdoor restaurants that welcome dogs as well as some of the best sightseeing in North America. Be sure to take him along on any one of the numerous ferry rides.
  2. San Francisco, CA—Many first class and economy hotels that welcome dogs, great scenery and a ton of beaches and parks that allow dogs.
  3. Chicago, IL—From carriage rides to boat trips down the Chicago River, dogs are welcome almost everywhere in Chicago. Dog-friendly lodging is plentiful as well.
  4. Boston MA—An abundance of historical parks including Boston Common, Arnold Arboretum and Minute Man Park. All dog friendly.
  5. Austin, TX—Tour the Botanical Gardens, Town Lake and a variety of beautiful parks where you and your canine pal will receive a friendly Texas welcome.
  6. Seattle, WA—Leashed dogs are allowed on public transportation as well as on the numerous ferries. The scenery is spectacular and there are even off-leash beach areas.
  7. New York City—A number of upscale hotels cater to dogs plus New York has 30 off-leash dog parks scattered throughout the city. Dogs are also welcome on Central Park carriage rides and the Seastreak Ferry to New Jersey.
  8. Long Beach/LA, CA—Long Beach recently became home to the first off-leash dog beach in LA County in decades. This three-acre doggie paradise fronts the mighty Pacific Ocean and is home to numerous nationally famous dog events.
  9. St Louis, MO—Home of the AKC Museum of the Dog, you and your four-legged friend can take a riverboat ride down the Mississippi, view the Gateway Arch and visit any number of dog-friendly parks.
  10. Northern VA/Washington DC—Cruise the Potomac with your friend in tow and visit any number of historic outdoor parks. Hike the Mount Vernon Trail or visit over twenty off-leash dog parks in the area.
