German Shephards

Anyone else here have a german shephard? Do you get involved with the special training programs available to them or is he/she just a house dog/pet?

We have had many dogs and I am quite versed in obedience training etc, but this is my first purebred shephard. She is wonderful so far and has bonded with us quite well.

Her name is Angel. In this pic she was 6 weeks, she is now 13 weeks. Would love to talk with other GSD owners!

Wow! Just look at how much she's grown! Angel, now 7 months old, just graduated from Basic I Obedience with flying colors! The trainer even made it a point to say very nice things about her and I before giving us our certificate. I'm such a proud mommy! There were about 12-14 dogs in the class, and she really did very well. I plan to take her through Basic II at the end of June, and at the end of that class she will earn her CGC (Canine Good Citizen) award that is presented by the AKC. After that, i would like to continue with obedience training and go into obedience trials and showing. I really think she has a lot of potential to be a champ!

I posted this pic in another forum, but thought it was appropriate here too

Amanda, She's adorable!! Is that the proud Papa in the pic. too? She's not spoiled or anything, huh? LOL!!!

We had a German Shepard mix when still lived at home. She was my sisters dog, so loving and yes, she thought she was human too.

She had her for 13 when she had her put to sleep because she was suffering so bad with hip problems. To this day my sister still gets shaken up about her even if you mention the dogs name. Her name was Marshmallow, BTW, because she the color of a burnt marshmallow. ;-)

Thanks Tami Yes, that's my husband in the picture. The cat you see with Angel is Tigger. Angel and Tigger just got fixed yesterday. Poor Angel, she's not moving around much at all. I know it'll take a few days,

Well it's been almost 3 months since Angel was fixed, we've moved across the country, and I have finally been ablr to successfully teach her to stay in the front yard and not bolt off throughout the neighborhood! I am so proud of her I don’t know why I couldn’t teach her this when we were in Wisconsin, guess a combination of the different environment and her maturity. Who knows.

My puppy is growing up J *sniff* I can’t believe she’s 2 ˝ already! Just took these pictures today while we were playing catch with her. This guy was driving by in a convertible black Mercedes, he passes us about half a block, stops, backs up and tells us how pretty she is and that she looks just like his dog. LOL She’s finally gaining weight and filling out, seemed like that took forever. She looked like we never fed her!

Oh Amanda, she is gorgeous!!!

And such a perfect name for her because she looks like an Angel!!!

Right now we have a mini doxie....that belongs to DD. When DD moves out next year, we are going to get a new dog.

I was thinking of perhaps a Lab......but now I am thinking of maybe chaning that!!
