What kind of fish do you have?

We keep African Cichlids in a 55 gallon tank. We have a 90 gallon that will eventually be a saltwater tank, but being as those are fairly expensive, we are holding off for a while!

I'm considering a small tank in ds' room, but am not sure if he'd keep his hands off. He does great with the tank in the living room, but in his room, he'd be unattended!!

Kids fish

We have had several type of fish over the past two years. I have found that the gold fish seem to be dirtier then the rest and need to be cleaned more often once we got rid of ours our tank cleanings have defiantley decreased. We had mollies which had 22 babies and now they are all dead not sure why I just havent had luck with them the longest they have ever lived is 6 months for us.
I would recommend the Rainbow fish . We have one and he just is like energizer keeps going and going and is quite pretty under the tank lights. Our fish are kid fish and sometimes they are over fed , sometimes they jump out of the net during cleaning tranfers and have flopped around on the floor and have survied through little fingers chasing them in the tank.
Right now we have two rainbow fish a huge sucker fish and a angel fish and they do fine but the rainbow fish seems to be the best and I would recommend that.
they are fairley cheap and we found ours at a Wal-mart pet store. Hope this helps

I started my coldwater tank with 1 molly and 1 fancy goldfish. They do very well and seem to be hearty fish. You might also consider a beta. The child could keep it in a small bowl and it would require little maintence. Plus they are beautiful!;-)

We have a beta and about 10 goldfish (bought for .49 ea.) in our pond. The 2 oldest have grown from about 1/2 inch to about 4 inches and the little ones are growing too!

I would like to know more about your pond. We have a tiny one in the back;one of those that is black plastic. It had a fountain set down in it, but we accidentally burned it up last summer. I have often thought about trying a couple of fish in it but did not know how to go about it, especially in the Winter.

Pond

We're going to put in one of those little ponds--hopefully next year. I'd like to put some fish in it, but what do I do with them during the winter? I don't think it would be deep enough to keep them out there! I haven't researched this yet--I don't HAVE to put fish in, but I'd like to. Plus, I want a cozy haven for my turtles--they are outgrowing their tank lol! I don't want them eating the fish!

aquariums

Guppies are so easy to keep and multiply fast. With some artificial greens for the babies to hide in, you will be able to watch them grow and have babies themselves. It is quite interesting for my 4 year old grandaughter.
