Five-Layer Lasagna

This recipe was originally posted in What’s for Dinner November 2007 by dinsky
Five Layer Lasagne
2 cups ricotta cheese (part skim)
1/2 cup cottage cheese (low fat)
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 eggs, beaten
salt and pepper to taste
1 pound mozerella cheese, grated
6 cups of your favorite thick marinara sauce
5 sheets fresh pasta or 20 lasagne noodles
1/2 cup grated parmessan cheese

Preheat oven to 375*. If you are using dried pasta, par boil until just tender. Rinse with cold water and set aside on a towel. No need to par boil fresh pasta.

Mix together ricotta, cottage cheese, nutmeg, eggs, salt and pepper. Set aside.

Spread a little sauce over the bottom of a 9"x13" pan. Add a layer of pasta. Drop by teaspoons about 3/4 cup of the cheese filling and gently spread over the pasta. Spread about 1 cup of the sauce over the filling. Sprinkle 1/4 of the mozzerella cheese over the sauce. Add another layer of pasta. Another 3/4 cup of filling. Spread with another 1 cup of sauce and 1/4 of the mozerella. Repeat until you get to the last layer of pasta. Spread with the remaining sauce and make sure all of the pasta corners are tucked in. Sprinke with the parmessan cheese.

Cover a cookie sheet with foil and set your pan on this before putting it into the oven.

Bake for 45 to 60 minutes depending on how thick your sauce. Let set for 15 minutes before cutting.
