Barb, I remember you saying your ds likes to clean the toilet...one less step for you! Although at my house when the kids help it usually means more steps for me. But at least they're learning to clean so I guess it's worth it.

My sink does look so nice right now. I have a SS sink though and it's a little scratchy looking. I need to buy some SOS pads or something. Also, I get mineral buildup on my sinks from my water. Will the SOS pads remove that? I've used vinegar on it before and it helps, but in some places it's hard to get vinegar to stay on them. In the past the only thing I could think of was to wet a paper towel w/ vinegar & lay it on the places that have buildup. Does anyone have any better suggestions? It's around the base of the faucet, around the faucet handles, and behind the sink between the sink and the backsplash.

Thanks for all the encouragement. My dh will be so suprised when he comes home one day and our house is clean! It might take a year of babysteps, but hopefully it will happen!

Now I have 2 websites that I spend too much time on. I'll have to start setting a timer so that I don't spend too much time on each.

I think THE one best tip I ever got from Flylady was the weekly home blessing. She has such a common sense approach to dealing with this, without killing yourself once a week or on the week-ends. If I can see that my house is pretty clean throughout the week-then I feel freer to work on other projects, people, etc. But I don't discount the "shiny-sink" principle. That one thing is contagious!
Good luck & let us know how it goes, Mindy.

Mindy,
Have you tried "Soft Scrub"? I love that for hard-to-remove dirt and grime. After using that on my ss sink, I spray on "Sheila Shine" and it looks brand new!
Take care,
Mari

Try a bit of bleach in your dishwater when doing your dishes by hand...It won't hurt your hands or the dishes...it cleans the sink, untensils and cups...I put bleach in my dishwater all the time...not a lot of it but enough to make a difference...

I've never heard of Sheila Shine. Is that a flylady thing or is it similar to Windex?

I used SS on my sink but I need something extra to get the mineral deposits off. We have a water softener, but when they plumbed the house for it they only plumbed the hot water to go through the water softener. I've never heard of anyone doing that before. We had the house built and that's the way this builder does it for some reason. I can understand maybe not having the cold water in the kitchen be soft water, but it kind of defeats the purpose when you're showering, doing laundry, cleaning, etc. to not have the cold water softened in the rest of the house.

I just looked Sheila Shine up on the internet. It looks amazing! Is it sold in stores or only online? Thanks!

Well, so far so good. I'm getting ready to go to bed & my sink is empty & shiny! Today I set my timer for 15 minutes & cleaned of one section of kitchen countertop & the basket that's in that area. Small space, but even dh noticed when he walked in. The first thing he said when he walked in the door was, "Someone's been busy." Yeah! He noticed! I also used Windex on stove top & outside of microwave. I cleaned the drip trays on the stove & under the stove top where all the nasty stuff goes. It doesn't look like I've done much, but I know it's a great start. My Mom is spending the night & the guest room is also the play room. The girls have totally destroyed the room in the last few days so I had to clean a path so Mom could make it to the bed. I made some piles so it'll be easier to organize the next time I make it in there. I feel like I accomplished something good today. It's a great feeling!

I worked at a restaurant equipment and supply company and whenever they took in a pc. of equipment on trade it had to look appealing to resell..they always cleaned the stainless steel with Sheila Shine..made the equipment look like new..they got it through a local industrial cleaning supply house..if you ask your local rest. equip. dealer they could tell you where they get theirs....

I signed up for Fly Lady yesterday. Maybe I am crazy since I am only home half the week now. But when I am home I am overwhelmed with school work, massage and tidying up the house. My dh and kids are doing a great job but I feel behind when I started college last spring. I didn't know how depressing the other college was. I was ready to start medication until I switched colleges. Now I have make up tidying to do. I have sorted thru some papers this morning while waiting for the computer to load.
