crock pots
I hate cooking when it is hot and making my house even hotter with the oven and stove. We dont have A/C so that doesnt help much either. I love my crock pots and use them during the summer. I am looking for new ideas and sharing recipes. I have 3 small kids so I love recipes that kids like. Thanks for any help..8-)

I may not be much help because I am a vegetarian.

I use my cp for lots of beans and rice. Like tonight I made hm refried beans in the cp. It was hot and didn't heat up the house. We used these for tacos.

I also am a big fan of veggie and bean soups. These are huge in my house.

Okay don't laugh, but I have one cp for my meat eating family and one for me the veggie.:-D

I have also done potatoes, onions, and bbq sauce. This is really good and feels me up. What about sweet potatoes?

My husband bought me a cookbook at Costco called "fix it and forget it." It has around 800 recipes for crockpots from apple cider to peach cobbler to cornbread to macoroni and cheese. It only cost about $11.00 and it is wonderful with tips throughout. It's compiled by Dawn J. Ranck and is a new York Times bestseller, so probably easy to find.

;-) I will have to get that book. I need some good recipes especially ones that the kids will eat. Thanks for the information!

Have you checked out the forum for crock-pot/pressure cooking? If you request towards the bottom of the page all the treads since the beginning a longer list will come up. There is even crockpot pizza listed.

Hi Regina,

Since you seem to get a lot of use out of yor crockpot, would you have a good recipe for baked beans? I bought a crockpot sometime ago, and know how handy it can be. I like to fix food ahead of time, turn it on when I go to bed, and it's ready for us around 11 or 12 noon. I wish I had had the sense to get it when my kids were home. Such a time-saver! The problem now is that my dh is a very fussy eater, and there are a lot of things he just won't eat--spicey foods, dairy products, celery, too many onions for starters. We are retired now, so anything I make I do when he is busy so he doesn't see what goes in!! He hates butter, and if he only knew how many things I've made with butter, he would curl up!

what kinds of foods do your kids like?

my kids like kinda spicy foods this is their favorite:

b/s chicken breast strips
1 can tomatoes (so it isnt TOO spicy)

cook on low 4-6 hours

serve over rice with some cheese (mozarella, jack...).
and tortilla chips on the side.

I usually put the cheese in a bowl on the table, they love to add their own.

dh and I are on 'diets' and this is a really low-cal dinner.

I also make my own spaghetti sauce in the cp. It is hard to write it down because it is one of those 'just dump stuff in' recipes but here goes:

5 cans chopped tomatoes
3 italian sausage links ( cooked, crumbled) *you could add more but i try to keep the calories down.
1 medium onion, chopped
1 bulb garlic, chopped
seasonings to taste: italian, oregano, chili powder, basil...whatever you like. I usually put a lot, like 1/8 cup italian, 2t chili powder, maybe a tablespoon oregano then a pinch of garlic salt, a little basil. sorry i really dont measure most of the seasonings, i just add them!

cook on low all day, stirring occasionally.

it makes 3 dinners, I freeze 2 ziplock containers each with 4 cups of sauce and then we eat the third for dinner.

let me know what your kids like and i will get you more.

My sister in law makes the best baked beans that I have ever tasted, and it is simply dumping in the cans, juice and all. She takes all kinds of beans, pinto, kidney, butter beans(they are great in baked beans), browned hamburger, cooked bacon cut into small pieces, browned sausage. Mix them all together and the juices from the beans mix together for the sauce. If too thick she adds a can of water and salt and pepper to taste. Very yummy.....good luck.. Thanks for the receipes also..:daisy:
