Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll give this a real try and see how it goes for us. I'll definitely start with the week first. :D

chuckle

I had to reply to the I did thread because I did it!!!!!

My very first freezer cooking attempt went off with out a hitch and it was great.

I bought 20lbs of chicken leg quarters, 2 whole chickens, 10lbs of potatos and the stuff to make breakfast burritos.

I made 24 breakfast burritos, chicken in BBQ marinade, chicken in Teriyaki marinade, chicken nuggets, chicken tettrazinni, 3 south of the border casseroles, 2 kings ranch casseroles, 2 roast sticky chickens, 10 twice baked stuffed potatos and chicken noodle soup.

In all I had 17 meals, 5 lunches and the potatos my husband was so proud that he went to work and told the guys how his wife had cooked all day to make it easier for him.

I commute 45 miles to work and I don't get home until late therefore supper always falls on his shoulders. He is so happy to just pull out a casserole and pop it in the oven, and it is very satisfiying to see all that food in the freezer.

Sorry for the long post but I am so excited.

Lynn

Hi all! I just wanted to post here because I finally did it too! I have been putting this off for a while but I finally did a cooking session, though it was only for about 2-3 weeks because I could not get a sitter and my kids had had it! I did it about a week ago and at first I thought "Wow, that was a lot of work. I'm never doing that again!" But each and every night that I pull a ready-to-cook meal out of the freezer I like this more and more.

I just need to get some more recipes. Almost everything I made was Mexican cause I don't know what freezes well! I made two batches of chili, two taco salad mixes, two batches of enchiladas(chicken and beef), two batches of stuffed shells, two batches of stuffed shells, and two batches of salisbury patties. I also made up several different batches of cookies and froze the dough in small portions cause if I bake a whole batch at once I'm gonna eat 'em!

Sounds good, Lisa! I freeze a lot of Mexican, too. I also make pizzas, sandwiches(meat and cheese, no veggies), baked beans, soups, meatballs, just about any type of casserole...the ideas are endless! If you need help, take a stroll through the frozen food section of the store--if they can freeze it, so can you, and it'll taste better to boot lol! I "swiped" a lot of my oamc stuff from the schwan's catalog--why pay those prices for something I can do myself?

As for freezing cookie dough--have you tried packing it into an old frozen juice can? If you line it w/plastic wrap and put the dough in, when you pull it out, you get slice and bake cookie dough! I got this one from Frugal Moms, btw, and it works.

Thanks for the ideas Mrs. Maniac! I will have to try the cookie dough one. That will make it very convenient. I also like the pizza suggestion --but I make HORRIBLE homemade pizzas! They are greasy and the dough never turns out right. I know this isn't the recipe forum but do you have any suggestions on how you do yours?

I use the recipe I got with my bread machine, but before that? I bought the frozen dough at the store lol! I never could make a decent crust from scratch! It's inexpensive, and I'd get 2 large pizzas, or about 8 "minis" for lunches. I figure that even if buying the dough is more expensive than making my own, it's still a lot cheaper than ordering out!

Any interest in OAMC? I would love to try it, but need to get the freezer sorted out first. I have done weekly in the past, but at the moment I feel flat out thinking one meal at a time!
