Just curious if you did this? I have frozen sandwiches as well and never had a complaint

I just did some freezing yesterday. I made two batches of taco meat, two batches of chili, three batches of meatballs, and slow simmered some chicken to use with enchiladas and soup. I froze the broth too

I also bought a great big pork loin (not the tenderloin, the boneless loin). I know I could cut it up into chops, but i think instead I will cube some of it for kabobs and marinate those in the freezer (thanks for the tip!!), maybe cut some into strips for stir fry, and just leave the last portion as a roast. Anyone else have any ideas? This thing is really big! LOL

I froze a sandwich and it was fine. Has anyone ever froze the lettuce with it? How did it do?

I know I have accidentlty frozen my lettuce in the crisper drawer and it wasn't good at all. Because of the high water content, it crystalizes, and when it defrosts it was a mushy mess.

Thanks. That's what I figured. I guess I could put my lettuce slices in baggies and add them to the sandwiches at lunch.

Lettuce & tomatoes get nasty when frozen on sandwiches so they are best taken separately and added at lunch time.

My Mom bought the girls some of the PB&J and grilled cheese frozen "sandwiches" last week.

My son will not touch those premade sandwiches. My neighbor gave one of the PB&J boxes to my kids and after one bite, he said "no way". This makes me hesitant to try freezing it from homemade too. I do like the idea of freezing other sands. though. I agree.....frozen lettuce becomes nasty!!

Mystery Guest, I have used a piece of pork loin like that in the crockpot and made pulled pork sandwiches that were really good. I usually buy a big one from Sam's Club and do different things with it too. I have a piece in the freezer now and stir fry sounds really good to me. Thanks for the idea!

Do what DeBora did and freeze one to try it out Trust me, they (sandwiches) are great!

As for the pork loin, thank goodness for barbszy, she gave me those links and I got ideas from there. I actually ended up marinating four pounds worth of pork kabobs and freezing those, and then I took the other four pounds and beat the into submission BAHAHA~ I made Schnitzel, which is basically pounded pork, breaded, then you fry them in oil on the stove. I've had those before in the form of pork tenderloin. They serve those at the Iowa State Fair. I've never been there, but my inlaws used to go on a regular basis. In fact, I think this is the first year they haven't gone. So anyway, those are frozen too, got about nine of them out of that.

Thanks!!

BTW, don't forget how different those are from homemade. They are adding preservatives etc to theirs, so it IS a different taste. Plus they use a different brand than you do probably. If you kids are like mine, they only like THEIR penaut butter (in our case it's Skippy) and THEIR jelly. LOL
