I have lots of mugs that I have been given as gifts. I use one as a pencil holder on my desk. I use Christmas mugs during the holidays to hold Christmas candy and candy canes.

Coll sounds like a nice table top. I have a mixture of cups some I have bought and others given to me. For the ones where the "lip" is too thick I use them to eat ice cream, bits of fruit salad as well as soup out of. Love all my cups.

There are some terrific ideas here!

I only own collector type coffee cups. My oldest cup is one with a picture of my DD and I on a HUGE roller coaster at 6 Flags. I am holding my DDs head as she was so scared she fainted. lol It is faded, but it is still a memory that we all enjoy, especially her children who I am raising.

I used all my coffee cups. Some have gotten broken but I feel at least I have enjoyed them, rather than them sitting in a cabinet or in a display case.

I use all my cups one way or another except for 2 one is of Steven a school pix it is sitting in my BR where I look at it first thing in morning and last thing at nite. And the other one is larger and depicts Adam walking Gina "down the aisle" when she & Kent got married Aug 26th of '06. That is out in LR for all to see and enjoy. My Christmas cups are packed away untill Thanksgiving and then packed away again week of New Years. Same with my special dish towels and glasses.
When I drink out of certain cups it brings memories of who ever gave it to me. I am a sentimental ole gal

More often than not I/we use the souvenirs for the purposes that they were created (i.e. shot glass, alcohol measure, drink cups = drinking fluids), and other times they are left on a display shelf / cupboard depending on what they were made of and/or when they were purchased. An example of the latter would be a bracelet my sister and I received in our youth. My mom gave me a photo album with both bracelets in it, I took a copy of my sisters' and put it back in the photo album - it sits on our book shelf / display shelf, the bracelet its-self I sent to my sister for her child-hood collection. The spoons my parents still have, and the cups/glasses my DH and I split between storing and using.

Depending on size you can use them in your bathroom for cotton balls, swabs, etc.

Gina bought me a pretty good sized coffee mug
it has a Fawn Pug on it. Will use it and hope it does not get
cracked or chipped.

The bigger plastic ones, especially those with lids would be welcomed at food pantrys. I see a lot of people who have to walk everywhere, or are living in the woods, carrying them.
