Anniversary Parties

My husband and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in September 2007. Would it be appropriate to throw our own anniversary party?

Hi Coll & Bethaliz,

Coll, the traditional anniversary gift for 7 years of marriage is wool. I guess this means that you can give matching "his" & "hers" sweaters! I'm sure that there is a more modern translation of the traditional gift, somewhere on the internet.

Bethaliz, my hubby and I are going to celebrate our 25th anniversary this August. We're thinking of hosting our own party, as well. I'm thinking of hearty hor d'oueveres and decadent dessert buffets, so guests can mingle (and laugh at our old wedding pictures!). I'm going to request "no presents" as well. What are your thoughts on this?

Sad face I apologize for mixing up the names!

Bethaliz & Coll,

I apologize for mixing up my answers to both of you! Just reverse the names!

Hubby and I are hosting our own 25th. We are doing a BBQ and a house party as everyone is from out of town. We did up a free website and mailed out invites early since we are doing it over Memorial Day weekend. We are also stating no presents, because there is nothing that we need that we won't get for ourselves.

I don't see any problem with you organising your own anniversary celebration, My sil parents did their own 30th 5yrs ago, had all thier friends over and had a great time.

Thumbs up Anniversary Party

There is absolutely no reason why you SHOULDN'T throw yourselves a party to celebrate your lives together up until this point! There aren't enough couples who make it that long anymore. I gave myself a party for my 30th birthday (Not saying what year!) and had a blast. Had some appetizers and drinks for the crowd. Even had a band! If there are people who insist on bringing gifts for you when you have requested none, ask them to send a donation instead to a charity in your name. Good luck with the party!

All I have to do now is talk my husband into it. What a chore that will be.

It might be easier than you think. Nestor actually agreed without any cajoling. He's now in a frenzy about fixing up the outside of the house and yard. Totally amazed me!
