ARTICLE PICK OF THE WEEK

PARENTS, PLAYGROUNDS AND PRECAUTIONS
As the sun finally seems to be making a regular appearance, children everywhere will be looking forward to summer break.
Parents will inevitably be thinking of ways to keep them entertained for the next couple of months.
Playing outside is a great way for children to remain active and have fun, and the playgrounds that populate parks all over the country are the perfect locations for this to happen.

However, no two playgrounds are the same and in the interest of child safety it is important that parents take care to ensure that their childís chosen play spot is up to scratch and isnít likely to send them home with added bandages.
Itís a startling statistic that 70% of all injuries to children aged fourteen or younger in the USA are a result of playground accidents, according to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control.
As parents, here are a few steps you can take to ensure your children are playing in a safe environment.

DO YOU TAKE GIFTS WITH YOU WHEN YOU VISIT FRIENDS DURING THE HOLIDAYS?
All of the cooking shows and crafts shows always talk about making little gifts for your friends when you visit during the holidays.
Do you do this? I don't think that I know anyone who actually does this. It would be nice, though.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU GOT MARRIED?
Did you marry at a young age or did you wait until you were a little older to do it? .....

CALLING ANY AND ALL GRANDPARENTS
Come talk about your grandkids and learn about other grandkids.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH "BACK TALK" FROM YOUR KIDS?
My son is starting to drive me crazy with his back talk to both me and my DH. We expected some of it when he started kindergarten this year but it is getting worse than ever.
Taking things away from him really isnt working. I swear that he has been off of his XBOX more than on it since he got it for Christmas.
He gets mouthy when he is asked to do something or doesnt get his own way.
He doesnt have a list of chores but he does have certain jobs that he has to do. Would some type of reward program work? We were thinking of making a chore list and then "rewarding" him at the end of the day with tokens that he could cash in at the end of the week for cash, movie or game rentals or whatever....... Im afraid though that this is delivering the wrong type of message to him.
Whe have been allowing him to get away with some things because we are under a lot of stress due to DH's job right now and we didnt want to take it out on him.
Im am so exhausted from fighting with him....especially at night when we are all tired. Sometimes I feel like Im failing as a parent but then there are times when he is such a good kid and he makes me so proud. ( Why does it seem like they shine in public and turn into deamons at home ....all within 15 minutes?)
I would really like to hear what works for other families.

ARE OUR KIDS TOO BUSY?
Kids today seem to have so many choices of after school activities to pick from--sports, academic teams, band, drama, jobs, church group, service clubs etc. Sometimes my Dd leaves the house at 7:30am and doesn't return until 10:30 pm. It seems to becoming a normal routine not only for her, but many kids. My Dd is in high school ,but I know of many elementary aged children who have a scheduled activity every night of the week.
Do you set limits on the number of activities your child can do?
Do you think the more activities the better?
Do your kids have time for family and relaxing? Do feel that keeping your children involed keeps them out of trouble?

WHAT DO YOU LIKE?
I like writning, laying in bed with the lights off and listening to it rain outside,......and the smell after a rainshower. I like riding the train, camping, lemon meringue pie, reading the newspaper at the coffeeshop, hot buttered corn on the cob, San Fransisco, going to chick flicks and George!!!!!
WHAT DO YOU LIKE??

CRUISE SHIPS
Have you ever be on a cruise ship? If so which one? share your
experiences if you would..

CRENSHAW SQUASH
I just bought a Crenshaw squash from the Amish, but I need some different ways to fix it. They told me they slice it, dip it in flour and fry it in butter. Sounds sort of like a fried green tomato way of fixing it. But I am sure there are other ways to fix it. Any one have any recipes that they have tried and care to share?

RAINY DAY HAPPENINGS....
Usually on a rainy day I am in the mood to do some baking or sewing. But after many days of this kind of weather I run out of ambition to do much of anything other then read a good book.
What are some things that you do when it's a rainy/gloomy day? Do you do pretty much the same things, are you put into a mood to do as little as possible or do you just wait it out?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CRAFT?
Just wondering what you like to make, when you get crafting?

A WORLD WITHOUT BEES
I thought these articles were quite interesting. I've always known the importance of the bee's, well at least since I was a adult but really didn't know what they polinated and what they didn't. Be careful of the pesticides you use and grow flowers as well as your veggies.

NOSEY IN-LAWS
I use to have difficulty with my ex-mother-in-law. I suppose if the spouse doesn't lay down the lines of where the in-laws are not to cross then they will try to run your family.

MAKING NEW FRIENDS AS AN ADULT...
I have lost some of my best friends over the years.
Whether it has been through death, their moving away, or just the dynamics of changing life .. I realize that I really don't have available friends anymore.
I am at a loss as to how to make new friends!
I'm just lonely, and don't know what to do about it. I end up talking to stor clerks and stranger.
Any good suggestions?
