Know the neighbors from 2 houses on the left, 1 on the right, 1 across the street and 2 from the side street. Mostly just chatting when we are outside. Back and fourth with the one across the street. He is dh's fishing buddy and we go over on Christmas Eve.
Talk mostly with the lady on the side next to our back yard. I give her flower plants and she has given me some also.

I can't really say whether I like my neighbors or not, but I do know a few of them and do take a little extra time to smile or say "Hi!" to them in passing. When we didn't share a wall or two (or three) with our neighbors I knew them better, or at least I knew which neighbor lived in which house and what their coming/going schedule was usually like...whether they knew that much about us, I couldn't possibly tell you. The couple to the right of us (on the in-end) he's a retired vet, and she's a misplaced hippy child - both are very quiet, and he introduced himself to me the first day the moving truck arrived...mainly b/c he ass-u-me-d the whole truck was our stuff, until I said we are the second of three deliveries in the truck. The next day the husband of the couple at the other end of the street introduced himself to me, and told me who some of the people are (were as many have moved/passed on since last Sept) on our little dead-end strip of parking. Recently he has had some health issues, which is sad b/c he and his wife have been the longest living residences - not only on our street, but also the complex of homes. He is also a very nice and friendly man, and his in-laws live with them (the misses is in her 50's, her parents are in their early 70's, and the mister is in his mid 70's). There is another couple who works with child service who shares our left wall, and another couple between them and the left-end couple. Another couple w/a big black dog lives diagonally - left - across from us, not sure who is left of them, but there is a mother/daughter/child-grand SON in the next house just left of us, a family of four directly across from us (she parks in the fire lane, right at the end of our driveway), and a misses who may or may-not live with her mom on the end unit diagonally right-across from us...they are hardly ever home, and that's why I'm not certain who lives with whom there. One of the units behind us is up for sale... the mailboxes are 200' from our front door to both the right and left of the parking Island, and there is a small playground on the island coming into the housing area with both plastic/metal and wood settings, oh and there are at least four local police / metro officers both in our area, just behind the park, and across the semi-main street coming in to our area and behind the hospital, which is also behind the Senior Center (across the main street) which I can see their flashy sign from our windows (thanks in part to the thinning of the trees!).

Thanks to my dh being a people person we know just about everyone on our street, minus maybe two or three houses of very young people. Most all are in there late 30's and up. NOt many kids on our street about 6 and only 1 girl. She gets so lonely. But if someone needs help we are all available. When my mom was alive many of our neighbors would stay and watch her when we had an emergency but tha was it. There really is about 4 families that we are the closest to , but it is a great neighborhood to live in. I still can't wait to sell our house though because we have two flights of stairs, one to the base ment and one to the bedrooms and getting to old to climb them.
