Angel Biscuits

This was the recipe my Great Great Aunt used to make; her recipe didn't have a bake temperature nor a time. Those "instructions" are my addition for how I bake them. They have their name because of the yeast in them which make them "rise" some; therefore "Angel " biscuits. These are very good with slices of country ham served in them!

1 1/4 oz pkg. active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water (115 degrees)

5 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp sugar

3/4 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Mix together all dry ingredients and work in shortening. Add buttermilk, water, and yeast mixture and mix well. Place in a greased pan. Bake at 400 degrees about 15 minutes or till lightly browned

When I was young we used to go "skinny dipping"; now we just "chunky dunk"

“The value of doing something does not lie in the ease or difficulty, the probability or improbability of its achievement, but in the vision, the plan, the determination and the perseverance, the effort and the struggle which go into the project. Life is enriched by aspiration and effort, rather than by acquisition and accumulation.”
