Peach-almond Scones

1 pkg (7-oz.) dried peaches, finely chopped
1/3 cup orange juice
2-1/4 cups flour
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2-1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chilled butter
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Preheat oven to 375. In a small microwave safe bowl, combine peaches and orange juice. Cover and microwave for 2 minutes or until juice is hot; set aside. In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt; stir until well blended. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. In a small bowl, combine whipping cream, egg, and vanilla. Make a well in center of dry ingredients. Add whipping cream mixture, peaches, and almonds; stir just until moistened. On a greased baking sheet, shape dough into a 9-inch circle. Use a serrated knife to cut dough into 8 wedges (do not separate wedges). Bake for 22 to 27 minutes or until lightly browned and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
