How will you celebrate Memorial Day?

Every year my family tries to get together to have a cookout. This year, for the first time since his death, I will be visiting my Dad's gravesite. I havent been able to bring myself to go there yet. I was pregnant with my daughter when he passed away, so he never had the chance to see her or hold her. I miss him so much.

We will celebrate my DD's 1st BD on the 23rd and then my BD on the 26th too!!

We are planning on explaining to my son what this holiday is really all about, along with the picnics and partying.

How do you celebrate this holiday?

We usually go to a cookout either to my familys or dhs sometimes both! I probaly should have one at my house one of these days.

I understand you waiting to go to your dd gravesite, it took my dh a long time to go his dads as well. Everyone is different!

Memorial Day Celebration

Unfortunately we won't be doing anyting this Memorial day do to the fact that my Mother is in the hospital. She had a mild stroke and is in kidney failure. She will be having dialysis. Once she gets home and feels up to it, we will probably have a picnic with all the family.

Coll, Im sorry to hear about your mother. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Hopefully she will be home soon and you can have your picnic knowing that she is feeling better.

My oldest dd and family & I will be down in Mississippi at my good friend's house for a cookout and remembrence. She has a swimming pool and we all have great fun. Her Husband is a retired fireman and so we always have a monent of silence for those who gave their lives and a prayer for those who are serving their country before we start the festivities.
This yr. I'm also taking 2 cards, one for my girlfriend's son serving in Iraq and the 2nd for my other friend's nephew who is training Iraqi policeman. We'll all sign it and write a short note and I'll mail it to them. I think it will make it more real for all of us who are safe at home.

Vivian, my aunts dh was training Iraqi Police last year.
He was to go to the mess hall for lunch but went sightseeing instead. Shortly after he left a car bomb drove into the mess hall.
He is so thankful for not eating lunch that day. But sorry that some of the others lost their lives.
