Need support and information on recovery of foot and ankle fusion

I had foot and ankle surgery Dec 17th and am home recovering. The pain medication given to me is working really well. Trick is to keep swelling from forming and elevating my foot as much as possible. Since Dec 24th all I want to do is sleep. I backed off on the meds a little thinking that would help and it hasn't compromised the pain index at all. Is this just part of the recovery, my body's way of reacting to the surgery. My doctor says this is a long recovery for this and I am non weight bearing for 6 weeks then your guess is as good as mine as to what will happen.

The ladies on Family Corner are so supportive and helpful in every way, I knew this was a good place to start even if just to raise my spirits. God Bless all

Been a long time gone from here. With retirement now and cabin fever facing me this possiblily will be my only link to some good people.

Carolyn so sorry to hear that you had to go through this and are in pain. I have no idea what the recovery is like for this but as you said the ladies here are great sources of info and support. Hope you can get some relief soon

Foot and Ankle

Hi Carolyn: Its going to be a long recovery. I broke mine a year ago last Aug. I have plates and pins and screws in mine and it still swells up till this day if I am on it much.
You must keep it up and rest. I know how hard that is to do. You get tierd of laying down. But you must.
You will have to have theraphy as the healing is over, but that isn't much fun.
You will find you will favor that foot.Scared to do much on it.
Don't be alarmed if you have to go back in surgery for removing stitch that didnt come out, I had to.
Sorry to say its a long recovery. But you as I will make it.
Good Luck & God Bless
