German- Style Beef Roast

1 (3 pound) boneless beef round rump roast
1 (12 oz.) can beer
1 cup Ketchup
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. black pepper

Trim off any excess fat from roast. Place in a 4 quart Dutch oven. In a bowl stir together beer & ketchup. Pour over roast. Bake, covered, in a 325 oven for 2 1/2 hours or until tender. Remove roast from Dutch oven. Cover meat; let stand while finishing sauce.
Meanwhile, stir brown sugar and pepper into the sauce. Bring sauce to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered 10 minutes of until slightly thickened. Slice roast, skim fat from sauce; serve sauce with meat.
