I jumped into the freezer this morning came out with some chicken legs. Don't know what I'll fix yet. Also need to come with something to take to raven knob. (Sons camping with the troop.

Store bussiness going slow. It can't get any slower can it?

We will be diving alot this month into our supplies in hopes better days tommarrow.

I've been doing a pantry challenge from my freezer to eat up what is in there. When I defrosted it I made an inventory list, had 50 meals worth of meat in there. I've been real good with marking off what has been used and adding what little I've bought on sale.

I'm thinking about getting some cheap plastic bins to help keep the meat more organized by age.

What helped me use what I had on hand was to make a list of 15-20 meat ideas that would use what I had on hand. It is time to make up a new list and co-ordinate the meat with sides that are on hand.

I would grill the chicken legs using this bbq sauce. It is yummy & my family prefers it for the chicken & especially pork chops (on the grill).

Apple-BBQ Sauce
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup ketchup
2 cups unpacked brown sugar
6 TBSP lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

In a saucepan over medium heat, mix all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil. Remove from heat, and cool completely. Use to baste meat of your choice.

*Note* I make up a large batch of this when I find chicken legs or pork loin (have it sliced) on sale. I put in the sauce & meat into a gallon freezer bag -- enough for a meal --- and freeze. As it thaws when I want it for dinner, it marinates the meat. YUMMY!

Ranae, that sauce sounds yummy!! I'm planning on buying a big pork loin next month.

I have been doing very well using my pantry items. The last time I shopped I made a point of buying things that are quick and easy to make so I didn't have to spend all day trying to make dinner!! I really do need to sort the freezer again--I had a list with a menu plan all set up....then dh got in there and decided to have a big get-together. We still have plenty, but the menu plan is now a bust lol!

Hey!! Is everyone starving or what?? Lol--I just checked the date of the last post and realized I'm still eating out of the pantry--woohoo!! It is getting low, though, since I'm making more of an effort to use it all, and quick!

I have been trying really hard to spend less at the grocery store. I love going to the store and could go three or four times a week. Over the last month I have made it a point NOT to do that, and so far it's been working. I made a really big shopping trip in mid-March and have gone each Monday since then to get some fresh things and re-stock anything I need like cat food and toilet paper. I have managed to spend a very reasonable amount of money on the Monday trips, and I am discovering stuff in my pantry that I didn't remember that I had!

I knowthat this is an old thread, but I need to start using up what is in my pantry/fridge/freezer.

I will be buying fresh items weekly such as salad, eggs, potatoes etc., but I do need to get a handle on what is actually lurking in my kitchen!

As I have a busy week ahead of me, I probably won't have chance to do an inventory until next weekend, but I will spend this week working out how I am going to organise things. I know for certain that I have a number of tins of tuna and red salmon, so I will hunt out some recipes that I know DH will like too.

I've been working on eating up what is in our cupboards & freezer in June/July also since DH filed for disability he has no money coming in so I'm trying to buy the least possible at the grocery for now. Will restock when he has money coming in but right now we are eating up what we already have.

I did take a bag in to church for the food pantry of items we didn't care for figure someone else could use it.

I just restocked my pantry this weekend. With having the son and family visiting for almost 2 weeks. They ate alot of stuff out of my cabinets. Now my cupboards are full again.

I am working on the freezers. They are loaded with food.
