    Have you ever bought one of those spice racks that come with spices? You fall in love with one of the blends, but cant buy another to replace it? Why dont you make your own spice blends? They are quick and easy, and you dont have to worry about running out!

    You can even find cute little glass containers with airtight lids and give them away as gifts!

    CAJUN SPICE HERB BLEND
    Meats, marinades, potatoes
    10 parts paprika
    1 part cayenne pepper
    1 part chili powder
    1 part dried onion flakes
    1 part black pepper
    1 part oregano
    1 part basil
    1 part thyme
    1 part cumin
    1 part garlic powder

    HERBES DE PROVENCE
    Meats, marinades, salads, butters
    2 tablespoons dried thyme
    2 tablespoons dried marjoram
    2 tablespoons dried savory
    1 tablespoon dried rosemary
    2 tablespoons dried lavender flowers
    1/2 tablespoon fennel seeds

    ITALIAN SEASONING
    2 parts basil
    1 part oregano
    1 part thyme
    1 part marjoram
    1/2 part rosemary
    1/2 part garlic powder
    1/4 red pepper flakes

    MEDITERRANEAN HERB BLEND
    For vinaigrettes, meat marinade and dips
    6 parts sun dried tomato
    3 parts basil
    3 parts parsley
    2 parts oregano
    1 part thyme
    1 part garlic powder
    1 part lemon peel
    1/2 part red pepper flakes

    PIZZA SEASONING
    2 parts basil
    1 part garlic powder
    1 part marjoram
    1/2 part crushed red pepper flakes
    1/2 part oregano
    1/4 part dried onion flakes

    SALSA HERB BLEND
    For fresh salsas
    4 parts parsley
    1 part cumin
    1 part dried red pepper flakes
    1 part dried onion flakes
    1 part coriander seeds, crushed
    1/2 part lime peel

    SEAFOOD SEASONING
    1 part salt
    1 part paprika
    1/2 part sugar
    1/2 part lemon peel
    1/2 part black pepper
    1/4 part garlic powder

    STEAK SEASONING
    1 part salt
    1 part paprika
    1/2 part garlic powder
    1/2 part dried minced onions
    1/4 part marjoram

    This is a really great idea, esp if you know someone likes a particular blend... like hot and spicy, asian, oriental, cajun, italian, etc.

    This is definitely a handy list for me. I love to use spices in everything!!
  • I don't throw away my spice jars from whatever ones I buy, and then I re-use them for my premade mixes. I make labels on my computer.
