Something that my Dad did to help me was send a list of his life insurance policies with the company name/number/policy number/$$value. As well as any company that would have a deposit to be returned to him with their contact info & the value. Pre-planning funeral arrangements and having the payment taken care of.

I was able to contact the life insurance company to start that process over the phone, contacted the VA hospital to make sure any medicine refills were cancelled as well as the home nurse/doctor, etc, contacted his bank to make sure they were aware of his passing and find out what I needed to close the account when I go down in a month. I had his credit card company name but not account number but they were able to put a freeze on the card and change the billing address to me and contacted the local social security office to make sure they were aware. He even had written out his obituary I just needed to put the date in. I didn't have to wait until I could get there before starting the paperwork needed to start closing his accounts.

My ds that just died wife is dating already and wants to visit with her new beau. My friends think it is odd for him to come too. She was married for 25 years to ds so it is not like we were not close. There are two granddaughters & grandchildren involved. Her parents are dead so I was her only family. She is a sweet and caring person so he is really in love with her. She has been very sick this year and he has stood by her which means a lot. I have already talked to him and thanked him for being there for her. He was a friend to ds before he died and he told him to take care of her. I am getting older so don't carry any hate in my heart if i can help it towards any one. I think it would be good for dh to have someone visit that he can talk with about his life and family. They live about an hour away so they can visit often. Life is exciting if you accept change has always been my motto.

Sueanne, what a wonderful post. I agree not to carry hate in your heart and life is exciting. It does change.

I am enjoying seeing photos of my Great Grandchildren from my Sons first marriage. Death brings new beginning and new lives to a family. I am now included in their lives again. Even a new Great Grandson was just born last week.
