Have lots of signs pointing the way to your sale if someone is having a sale a couple of blocks away make sure you have a sign pointing your way. Advertise in the paper in my paper for $22 you get 20-25 words and they give you yard signs and price stickers with a list of pointers to have a good sale.

To clean out more stuff group sell them 3/$ or 5/$ so they are buying groups instead of just one. Small items can be bagged together and sold as a set such as cake decorations or kids meal toys.

I don't price all items but make a sign with the prices (junior jeans $2, t-shirts $1) which saves me time in the garage sale prep end.

Have finger food for lunch made ahead so when it is slow you can run in and grab sandwiches and a drink to go back out.

Have help to keep an eye on those people who will try to take advantage of you by bait & switching or plan stealing. Even an older neighbor or teenager that is willing to be an extra set of eyes is helpful and they could bring some of their own items to sell.

Roberta
These are great tips that really work well!!

Getting ready to have a sale

Due to the fact, my credit card account has creeped up (I was appalled that I let it get that out of hand), I am having a sale on Saturday. I am hoping that I make some money--our garage sales in a small town don't make much--I have had two--one I made $80.00, the other I made $300.00. I have a nice selection of things--old and new that I have bought myself for next to nothing. I don't know why I am so nervous about having this sale (all by myself). I am having it on the main street of our town so I am hoping for alot of business. I am going to price things cheap enough that I don't have to bring it back home.
Credit card debt:$2400.00
Paid?

Good luck with your sale this weekend.

We are having a estate sale in the next couple weeks after we have a antique dealer we know come in Friday he owns the craft and antique mall where we sell our candles so we gave him first pick.

We will advertise in the paper as a estate sale, bring over our unwanted stuff as well as what's in the house of my now deceased mil and hopefully it will all sell. We have the house and garage. What doesn't sell our local boy scout troop will pick up for free and sell at their annual garage sale. What doesn't sell there gets donated to assorted charities so nothing ends up in the land fills.
