how can i save?

ok, i need to write this all down so i can vent. i would love to save some money since i am sahm. we live in a tiny apartment and want to buy a bigger one.

my main problem is that i cant mangage to keep a spending book for the family. i can write everything down but dh will not. i have no idea how much he pays on loans, phones, groceries, eating out etc.

here is how i try not to spend too much at the groceries. i try to shop only 3 times a week and take a car then. i buy each time milk products, meats, breads, greens, water etc. each time i pay around 450 kr (about 30$) in my opinion it is a lot only for food. the list is the same each time. we do get some of our greens form grandparents time to time but the saving is not that big (but they are healthier). as for meats (they are the most expensive things on the list) i try to buy ones that are on sale at that point. i also buy fruits that are on season and i have lots of berries i picked last summer in the freezer. occasionally we do buy sweets and things to snack in front of tv. when we run out of things between shoppingdays we walk to the gas station and buy things fromt here (water, bread, milk etc). one would think it is cheap to go there but if dh goes he buys all those snack tihings and beer also and the bill is most of the times around 10$. i have one store i got to buy things most of the times (it is the closest one). in general it has good selection of goods and some things are cheaper but some things are more expensive there also (for examle cheese is about 86kr per kilo but at the same time in some stores it can be 56 kr). but is it the money worth to drive somewhere just to get a deal on cheese? meat selection is not so good in tahat other store and also other goods are not so trustworthy. we dont have coupon deals here. they sometimes just discount some things but there is no pattern. some things are also cheaper with client cards but maybe only 5%.

so should i drive around and spend money on gas to find cheaper deals for groceries? is it worth the time and money? are there any other ways to save on shopping?

ok, that all was about groceries. what about clothes? they do get old and ripped. but i always feel so guilty buying clothes for myself- i feel as if i am just spending for fun. that instead i should buy some clothes for ds or we could use that money for something else. at the same time dh goes and buys a new video (on sale) for ds. there is no way we can talk about money. he sees no problem.

ok, thanks for letting me to vent on that subject. i now that it all may sound so chaotic and that is how it really is. no controll whatsoever.
