I was just reading about the 6 ways to save gas on About.com. It get these sponsored links on my gmail page. It states, in part, that you should:

1) Rely on public transportation (buses, subways, etc)

2) Rent a bike (if you only have to travel a short distance and bike doesn't use gas and it's great exercise)

3) Foot it (walk if you can)

4) Use a shuttle service (many motels offer free shuttle service if you are traveling and it's cheaper than using your own gas)

5) Use all-in-one destinations (if you are traveling, choose to stay at locations that are convenient to stores, restaurants, and so on)

I thought these were terrific ideas.

I will have to ask my DH about the tips at the beginning of this thread. He works in the oil and gas industry and he understands some of this stuff.

Tire Safety

I was looking for a place to post this link..it is about Tire Safety.

This is a real "eye-opener"...everyone should be aware of this!!
Wait for the ad to end and learn about tire safety and how to read the date code before you buy new tires.

There is also a thread devoted to the importance to knowing the shelf life of your tires and the dangerous of not knowing, which is the very topic you are referring to.

I know cruise control does help and not carrying any more weight in your car than you have too.
Gas here is $3.84

Hi all, gas in our area: Raleigh, Durham North Carolina just went down a little from $4.01 to $3.98. We are so excited we can now sneak in a extra trip to town..lol. My husband is a courier and we have to pay for his gas through out the year and deduct at the end of the year. We went up to 1200 month, almost doubled, so just seeing a 3 in the price is a reason to party!!!!!!

I do turn my car off when I'm in line at the bank or waiting for a long coal train to go by and I put it in park when waiting in line at drive thru if the cars in front of me aren't moving. Also, I use cruise whenever possible and leave the windows down when driving 55 or under!

I heard a report the other day that even with the price of gas having dropped for several months most people haven't increased their usage again.

Well, I know I haven't increased my driving any. I still try to find the quickest and least miles route to do anything, and combine trips.
