Hello gals from the Frugal group. Butterfly, we must have had a bit of ESP, because when the Newsletter came and I was reading through it, I just knew it was you that posted about proper eating.

I, too need to lose 25 - 30 lbs., but this is a hard time of the year to try and do that, with all of the holiday foods abounding. I think I will just take it a bit easier on eating and then in January I will continue good eating habits and throw in some swimming every second day. I have a gc for the hotel pool that is next door to me, and when I went there 2 years ago, I did manage to lost 18 lbs, and haven't put that back on Phew.

Having chronic health problems including the dreaded fibro, it is impossible for me to do any heavy duty exercising, but swimming is the best!! and I am going to really try hard to get back to it. Perhaps with a nudge from all of you gals, I will do it.
I have started to have a really painful arm. I don't know if it is from doing a lot of knitting or not, but I don't think so, I think it is a nerve thing. I am terrified that it is from the chiari starting to grow at the back of my head and pressing on some nerves. The only way to have this diagnosed is with another MRI, which I find distasteful to have to go through.

Cheers everyone,

JoAnne

Hello JoAnn,

Lovely to see you here. Sorry to hear about your arm, and also your concerns about the chiari. I have been unable to knit since my fibro got worse a few years ago. I can crochet granny squares, but that is the only crochet stitch I know!

It will be lovely to have you here so that we can all encourage each other. I am interested in hearing that swimming helps with your health issues; I cannot swim, I never progressed beyond swimming with a float.

You have done very well to keep the 18 pounds off, my weight has been up and down like a yoyo the last few months.

Butterfly x

Hi Butterfly. I notice that you mention fibro symptoms...is that fibromyalgia? Does this diet help you, do you think? My best friend also suffers from fibro, and if you believe this helps you, I would love to be able to tell her about it. Thank you so much!

Hello Kell

Yes, it is fibromyalgia. Sorry to hear that your friend has it.

For me, this way of eating has definitely helped me with my symptoms. Also, I must add that I believe that I also have a gluten intolerance as my stomach would balloon up as tight as a drum and I would vomit after eating too much bread or oats.

I would advise your friend to discuss with her doctor and get their clearance, to ensure that this way of eating is healthy for her and will suit her particular needs. I found this helpful for myself, it gave me confidence knowing that I have the support of a medical person as there is so much differing advice on what constitutes a healthy diet. I have been vegan and vegetarian in my past, so this is very different.

Hope this helps, and please pass my best wishes to your friend.

Kathy, I lost 40 pounds without dieting. I just ate really healthy (lots of fruits and veggies, chicken, fish etc.) and watched my portion sizes. I basically followed the food pyramid (which I know has been changed but I used the pyramid anyway) which is really a lot of food!

Butterfly, do you eat any grains? I think I would have a hard time giving up whole grain bread and oatmeal. I think what you are doing sounds very healthy and I look forward to seeing your updates.

I would have a hard
time giving up my oatmeal too plus DR just told
me today to make sure I eat oatmeal at least
3 times a week. And eat fish and lots of fruits
and veggies, low fat cheeses , fat free sour cream.
I can't do low fat cottage cheese tho' that stuff
can not deal with

Patti, I love oatmeal too! And I can eat low fat cheeses, yogurt, milk etc. but do not like fat free. And I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup

Congrats Sammi on losing 40lbs! It is nice to lose weight without dieting isn't it? When I am hungry I eat, and when I'm not I don't.

Me personally, I don't eat any grains as they all over the years began to disagree with me. Even the smell of some shop bread, or packet bread flour makes me feel queasy.

I eat meat, fish, vegetables (including sweet potatoes) fruit, and dairy products in moderation. I try and eat as little processed food as possible, as we used too when growing up.

Hello Pag, I am with you on cottage cheese! Used to make myself eat it in the 1980s (with dry ryvitas) in conjunction with the aerobic work out videotapes.

It is nice that you also have a doctor that you can discuss the diet that is right for you.

Hello bluebird, nice to see you.
