I suggest that you set small goals instead of big ones - say, 10lb loss instead of 25lb.

Make sure that you are willing to make a lifestyle change, not just going on a "diet". Believe me, I speak from experience, you will gain the weight back if you go back to eating the old way.

Make shelf and frig space just for your food so that you won't be tempted to look at other foods.

Give yourself 3-5 days to get over the headaches and body aches from sugar withdrawal. You might feel pretty crappy for a few days but then shortly after that you will probably start feeling bursts of energy...it will be working then.

Make menus, including snacks, so that you are never left trying to find something to eat at the last minute.

You can do it!!!! If you ever want to chat about low carbing, give me a yell.

Low Carb

I use the Diabetics Low Carb menus (got from the doc). You are allowed 60 mg of carbs per meal on this. I cut back to 40 mg per meal. It works great. You still get some carbs, no BIG hunger for them and with all the freebies along in the meal plans, you have no problems. Also, the rest of the family can eat the same foods (except you could increase their carbs ... teens, kids, etc.). Good luck. It will work and you will lose the weight. It will take a while but it is really easy and you are establishing a new food regimen for life.

I am reading or flipping through More Low CArb Meals in Minutes by Linda Gassenheimer. Like the recipes. I had one for breakfast.

My daughter said she thinks I do eat a lot. I am watching my servings. I think my dd could stand to eat a little bit more!

I joined TOPS.

Is TOPS a low carb program? You said that you're daughter thinks that you're eating too much - are you counting carbs? You will have to come up with a carb count that will work for you, not just watch your serving sizes. If you want something to really get you started, try the Atkins induction plan. You're allowed 20 carbs a day - and there is a list of allowable foods. It doesn't sound like much but once you get used to it, it really works. You follow the induction for at least two weeks and then you can move up to more carbs. The South Beach plan is a little more flexible.

If you're really serious about low carbing, you will have to do a "starting" plan of some sort to rid your body of sugars and additives - that's what the Atkins induction does. At the very least, buy a book or look online for a list of acceptable low carb foods and their carb counts. Follow it. I bet you'll be surprised at how many carbs really are in foods.

Don't give up!

I have south beach and atkins books. TOPS, is take off pounds sensibly. TOPS doesn't endorse any one plan, just offers support. I have been watching what I eat but not counting carbs. Maybe that is the challenge. I did lose four pounds last week. Postmenopause and thyroid problems are not helping anything.

Connie, get the book called Calorie King (I think thats the name) it shows carbs in everything. We use it for Elijah since we have to count carbs for him.
