Safest Place to Live

If you could live anywhere in the U.S., keeping your kids in mind (drug influences, crime, sex, etc) where would it be? And why?

Maine always comes to mind as one place that I would love to live. We love the coast line. I am not sure about the crime in that area, though.

I do know that it would not be in Charlotte, NC if I had a choice. The crime around here is getting way out of hand!

I don't know. We love our tiny rural town, but our child is grown and we are looking at it from very different eyes.

I think Pembroke GA it is a tiny country town, NO BARS no theater even just good clean little town. My parents are buried there. You never hear of any real probs there. My nephew in law is on police force there he says down right boring being at work sometimes but he says that is fine lol and the pay is not bad either.

Also think small towns in Vermont would be great.

Good question Amanda

Mission Viejo or Thousand Oaks, California.

These towns are rated for the lowest crime rates in the USA.
Accredited school system
low unemployement rate
community centers and private lake with community activities
clean cities, no trash or grafitti
clean air
mild climate year round
close to beaches
friendly neighborhoods

I have lived in Thousand Oaks and my sister's family lives in Mission Viejo. Both are very clean, family oriented places to live.

hugs, train

Maui or one of the hawaiian islands. Maui especially ..I was there for a week you can be around the whole island by car in an hour. Everyone seemed very friendly , the whole time we were there no one was crabby or cranky. Everyone seemed very happy and who wouldnt be it's beautiful and warm without being humid.....I think a lot of time weather temps affect people . It is very clean no garbage all over, people take pride in their surroundings . A friend i e-mail has never mentioned a high crime rate she just loves it there and wouldnt live anywhere else.

I would pick Iraan, Texas. It is far enough from civilization and everyone knows everyone else. People keep an eye out for each other's children. The school is pretty well off, so they have excellant teachers and equipment. However, towns with low crime rates also have a bunch of busybodies. So, when picking a town, I feel a benefit in one area, such as a reduction in crime, creates a deficit in another.
