Daughter's Eczema

My daughter is almost four now and has had eczema for almost two - three years now. I have tried prescription ointments, I've tried cortizones, I've tried oatmeal baths in an attemt to relieve the itching for her to no avail. Does anyone know of any other creams/lotions/ointments that may help? Also, would an oral antihistamine work?

Bethie,

Now that she is 4..I'd try going back to the allergist. You might be better able to diagnose what her allergens are. Most eczema is genetic in terms of the immune response... and most kids do tend to out grow it by the time they reach their teens... but in the mean time, just knowing better what it is that's causing your little girl to be reactive.. may help you avoid it if you can..

In the meantime, there are all kinds of advice for holistic treatments on the web.. but as far as mainstream medicine, nothing seems to beat cortizone creams.

I hope you find some relief for her. It must be so frustrating!

Val

medication

The only thing that seems to work for my 4 yr old dd#1 is the cream called Cultivate. Our ped dr prescribes it to her now after we had gone to a specialist to see if there was anything we could do for her. We have tried other meds but this one seemed to work the best. We apply it 2xs a day when she has a flare up but only once a week when there is no flare up for preventitive measures.

Thank you Crafty...,

I'll check w/ her dr the next time we go in! I like the sound of only having to apply it once a week after the major flare up is gone!
