My kids are 9 and 6 and don't get an allowance, although they do get money. They have piggy banks and save up money from the tooth fairy, from birthdays, and from any other time we give them a little pocket money. We don't give money for good grades because we expect the kids to do their best and earn the grades, but if they get good grades we get them a little treat, a small toy or a trip to their favorite ice cream place.

Each of them saved up $45 apiece, on their own, and they chose to use their money to buy souveniers for themselves and their friends while we were on vacation.

Since i have a 14 year who watches her sister and a 10 year and the 5 year old are just now getting there allowance.
Right now they just have to make their beds pick up toys and help clean up there room.Plus i get to pick 1 chore that mom has them do.
The older 2 are getting2.00 a week and the 5 year old is getting 1.00 a week,.
They aslo help out alot with other stuff here at the house.
