Food Poisioning

I spent all night on the eve of New year's eve in the ER with my 14 year old. She was ohhh sooo sick. Poor kid was vommiting every 10 minutes like clockwork.
After about 6 hours of this, the diarrhea began, and I knew she wasn't going to be OK at home. Her skin was cool and clammy, her pulse was about 120/min, she was shaky and she had a wicked headache.

Sooo I brought her over to the ER at 2:30 AM. They gave her a quick work-up, drew some bloods, did some lab tests, and gave her about 2 1/2 liters of saline, and some anti-nausea medicene through the IV. I took her home at 10:30 AM feeling a little better.

They diagnosed likely food poisioning coupled with a bladder infection.

It seems that most of what we think of as a "24 hour bug" is usually food poisioning. The doctor felt it was probably a form of bacterial gastritis she got from eating contaminated shrimp at a Chinese restaurant near my parent's home that we'd gone to the day before.

I really thought it was the flu.. but she's fine now ( thank G-d) and if the doctor was right.. all the rest of us be fine too...

Here's a link to an article on food poisioning that I found had a lot of information. The chard at the end of the article was particularly informative.

Val, Im so glad to hear that she is feeling better. Poor thing, my heart goes out to her!!

I went through the exact same thing with my son the day before Christmas Eve. I called his doctor and they told me that there was a stomach virus going around our area. He only vomited 4 times but it was sooo bad when he did. He was better the next day and then I got it soooo bad! I swear every 15 minutes for hours I was in the bathroom. Christmas day I was so sick.

We finally got over that and now we have the flu! I cant win!!

I'm going to read that article too. I've had food poisoning before and that night I though I was going to die my stomach hurt so bad. They said it was probably from eating something bad at Red Lobster the night before.
