Being new grandparents, our two daughters decided we would be called Mawmaw and Pawpaw. Our oldest granddaughter is now two and is calling us Pawpaw and Dada. She is a smart little thing and can say her "M" sounds, but after hearing us all laugh about her calling me Dada,I may be that for life. It will be interesting to see if the two month old will follow in her shoes. Being from the south, I called my grandparents Mamaw and Papaw.

Grandparent names

My DD calls my mother Gran and my stepfather DD which is one D for Daddy and one D for Dog which is his nickname. Something my mother came up with. On my husband's side his mother is Mom-Mom and his Dad was Pop-Pop. His mother's parents were MaMa and PaPa, his father's partents were Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop Collins. My mother's parents were Pop and Grammie, my father's parents were Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop Williams, my step-father's parents were/are Pop & Mom Us (Us for Usilton)
A lady I worked for had a grandson that lived in the midwest.
Her SIL's father was dead and the MIL lived close to her daughter and the grandson called her Mom-Mom. This lady (Fran) the grandson called her husband Pop-Pop, but didn't call her anything for awhile. The grandson thought you could only have 1 grandmother and 1 grandfather. Later he called Fran "Hey you" until he was 4 or 5.

I agree with you but the sad thing isn't only the grandparents that suffer in this.

I grew up calling my grandparents Grandma ___or Grandpa ___.addng their last names in the blank spaces..My grandkids call me Grandma...and their other grandma...Grammy...He is Poppa..
My husband passed before the grandkids were born....My greatgranddaughter calls me "Grandma Margaret"...this is easiest for her ...her brother (20 months)calls my daughter Gamy...and knows when he is speaking to me on the phone but hasn't called me any thing as yet....the others are too young to speak yet..

"You will be forever missed Margaret..."
