Popular Children's Books in your Country

Hi, I am a Children's Librarian in Iowa, USA. Our Summer reading program theme is "One World Many Stories". I am trying to find out from others around the world what are the popluar Children's books in your country. I want ot share this information with the children here. I think it will be interesting to see if there is a big difference in the children's interests or if there are similarties.
I hope that some of you that have posted on FC that live outside the US will see this post and help me out.

I loved Blinky Bill by Dorothy Wall when I was a kid, when my boys were growing up it became a cartoon and they loved that.
Bananas in pyjamas Carey Blyton (British, did the song and stories from that).
I loved the Gumnut babies series by May Gibbs
Little Miss and Little Mr books.
All that comes to mind right now
