Perks of being over 40

Here is why being over 40 is great:

1. Kidnappers are not interested in you.

2. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

3. No one expects you to run into a burning building.

4. People call at 9:00 pm and ask, Did I wake you?

5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

7. Things you buy now will not wear out.

8. You can eat dinner at 4:00pm.

9. You can live without sex but not your glasses.

10. You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.

Janet, this reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend. I frequently go shopping at night so I don't have to bring the kids along. A friend asked "Aren't you afraid someone will follow you home?" (She grew up in Minneapolis.) I told her, "Who would follow an overweight 40-year-old home???"

Had to laugh rainequilts when I read your post. I fall into that group too! I guess someone might follow us home if they wanted us to cook a meal.

LOL

I had to walk the kids home from my parents house one night after dark, about 4 blocks, and I said something to my dad about taking us home to which he replied, "Once they get you out in the light, they'll let you go." Now that's sadistic, but sadly true.

ladyinmaille,

Boy, not a good thing to say. Hey, I have seen your pictures, you are good looking, don't let anyone tell you different! People can be rude....don't take their negative talk inward...tell yourself you are beautiful in the mirror everymorning...soon you will see how stunning you are, afterall God has created us and it was good.

Thanks Janet

When I was growing up, there wasn't much positive feedback. So, when I had my kids, I always told them they were handsome/beautiful, smart, witty, loving. I tried very hard to give them positive images of themselves. I'm doing the same for my grandkids. I figure there are enough people in the world to cut you down, so from me, they get plenty of boosts.

I think some people don't realize how their words scar. Or even worse, they know they scar and don't care. I try to avoid those people.

Growing up I had very crooked teeth and was on the plump side. The kids called me the usual names, bucky beaver, etc., then, one day, one of the guys called me sexy chipmunk. Now chipmunks are cute. I wish I could remember the guys name. Because that was the day I started looking at myself in a different light.

Words can wound, words can heal.

Thank you for your kind words. Hugs, Linda
