Lee, my library has this book so I put it on hold. I'll see how it is.
I had lots of friends as a kid with houses just like that description! LOL! I wonder if anyone has written any from the Irish Catholic childhood? (Besides Angela's Ashes)

Barbszy, have you ever read any of Maeve Binchey's books? Some of her older books especially, such as Light A Penny Candle, are Irish Catholic. I believe the author lives in Ireland. Also, The Thornbirds, but I bet you've already read that. Old, but such a good book.

Actually I have NEVER read The Thorn Birds but I read all the Maeve Binchy I can get my hands on! I should get that one from the library too--thanks for the idea!

You are more than welcome. :-) I love all of Maeve Binchy's books, too. There is a movie of The Thornbirds, but I always thought the book was so much better. Take care!

Barb, I cant believe you have never read the Thornbirds! I loved that book, I remember my grandma had on her shelf but would not let me read till I was a teenager! Even then I think she had her doubts, I bought my own copy at a library sale years later!

I finished the book, not the happiest!

Never read the Thornbirds but did see the movie. And enjoyed it. The only book I remember reading and then seeing the movie was Back Street Affair with Susan Hayward (loved her) and the book was better.
Maeve B's books never saw any of hers guess if Barbszy likes them I will lol

Maeve Binchy writes good stuff, Patti--I'm sure you will like them. Most of them take place in Ireland. You will SURELY find them at your library!
I would recommend that you find and read the older ones first, since every so often some characters from earlier books pop up in later ones!
Usually you can find them at library book sales as well. I'll keep my eyes open

Count me in as a Maeve Binchy fan, too!

I grew up Italian Catholic in an Irish Catholic parish.

Yep, homes all had crucifixes.

I could not sleep last night, I started a book that afternoon. It's called, "Butterfly" by Sharon Sala. I had to finish it before i went to bed. Very good book, a love story with a mystery thrown in. I love those types of books.
