I haven't read anything for a while. I started a book Firefly Lane that looked like it was going to be really good, but it wasn't. I finally gave myself permission to abandon it halfway through. I hate to not finish a book. I have quite a few books waiting to be read. I think I'm going to start with Maeve Binchy's Heart and Soul.

What do you think of the new electronic books - Kindle, Nook, etc? I am thinking of getting one for DH for Christmas. He is a voracious reader and likes the idea of having numerous choices in a compact package. I don't think I would personally like it. I love the smell and feel of books too much - LOL!

Joy, I also read The Help this year and it was one of the best books I've read in a long time.

I got a Kindle for my birthday and so far I like it. It's nice to take with me when I go somewhere. Nothing will ever replace books in paper form, and so far I have not read a very LONG book on it. However I did buy an ebook that I believe runs 500 pages in actual book form, so that will be the true test! We tried the Nook but the page-refresh rate was really slow, the touch screen menu hard to use, and it required us to change our home wireless settings to something less secure. So we took it back to the store.
Staples and Target are both going to be selling the Kindle so you can "try before you buy."

Think I will stick to my paperbacks and occasional hard backs. But for those who have Kindle enjoy them. Happy reading regardless of how you are doing it

I am reading Water for Elephants and love it (except some of the animal cruelty parts are hard for me to handle) Very good story, though.

A just finished The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller. Very good book.

I also read Woodswoman by Anne LaBastille. It is about a woman who goes through a divorce and ends up buying some land by a lake in the Adirondaks in NY, builds herself a log cabin and lives in the middle of no where and what it is like. (true story) I found her story fascinating. It is an older book - written in the 70's.

I'm reading some "light reading" right now, novels by Bettye Griffin. They're pretty good and a fast read.

I'm a Beverly Lewis fan too! I just finished her recent book "The Thorn", it was very good, but now I have to wait till April of next year till the second book of the series comes out. I recently finished the "Annie's People" series too...loved that series.
