Would you give CPR to a stranger on the street?

If a stranger on the street was in need of CPR and you were trained to do it, would you help? Why or why not?

I am trained in CPR and I also have the mouth shield so yes I would help if I could. I would hope that if I ever needed it that someone would help me.

I recently heard on the news that you no longer do the breathing when you do the CPR. So no worries about mouth shields or anything like that.

Right this minute I would hesitate because my training was so long ago that I don't feel secure. But the question asked "if you were trained" and in that case I would say yes.

I'd hope that if I needed CPR, no one would pass me by!

Forgot to say, the one thing I would worry about is whether the state had a Good Samaritan law. I would not like to be subject to a lawsuit because I was trying to do the right thing and help someone.

I am CPR certified.
I would most definately help!
In my training, they told us the good samaritan law requires you to get the persons attention and ask them if they would like your help. If they are unconscious, it is implied that they want your help.

As a retired paramedic.. I have to say.. it depends...

Am I putting myself in any danger if I stop? (traffic, violence, blood and body fluids... Do I have flares, latex gloves, barrier device, etc)
Are my kids safe while my attention is devoted to the task? (both physically AND psychologically)

I have stopped to help many times. ( in CPR and other emergencies) But there have been two occasions where I have called 911 but did not stop. Both times my children were with me and were very little. It is a very personal choice.

But I also do hope that a person would help if they could if I or anyone I love were in need.

Good Samaritan laws exist in all 50 states. In NYS, the law states if you "act as any reasonable or prudent person would given the same set of circumstances, and you perform to the standard of care and within your level of training, you shall not be held liable for any injuries suffered as a result of those actions."

That means even if you choose to NOT act... and your decision was reasonable and prudent for the circumstances, you cannot be held liable.

In NYS the only persons required to act are those whose employment demands it, ( on-duty medical professional or public safety employee.. OR if you are "advertising" your qualifications, such as having a "First Aid Certified" car decal, or an EMT or Firefighter T-shirt on etc. If you are displaying, or verbally declaring you are certified to act, then you MUST act or else be held liable for negligence.

Ok, I know I'm rambling.. But I also think that everyone should be CPR trained, and that in order to get a driver's license, you should have to present your CPR card. I think it's a brilliant idea....

I am not CPR trained. However, if someone was in trouble, I'd try to help.
