Bette,

Several years ago an older man was working as a bagger at a grocery store. I just had a few items and no "cart." He asked me if I wanted a "buggy." It took a few minutes for me to realize that he meant a cart. I thought he was from a different decade.

names of things

I have noticed quite a few different ones listed. Lets see some of the ones we use.
I used to eat supper when I was a child, but have gotten into calling it dinner now.

My grandfather washed his hands in the zink. I use the sink. )

The soda thing we usually call it by what it is since we have both coke and pepsi around, so coke, pepsi, cherry whatever, sprite, root beer, sierra mist, etc.

I carry a pocketbook. A purse is something for the really fancy times, which dont happen around here. lol

We sit on the couch.

We keep out food in the fridge or refrigerator.

We wash with a washcloth.

We use a phone to call our friends or cellphone.

I wear shorts, jeans, sweats, underwear

For vacation, we go down the ocean.

This was a really neat post. It gets you thinking too.

Bumbershoot=umbrella

I asked my 12 yr old grandson what a bumbershoot was and he said it was an umbrella like the chimney sweeps had in the movie Mary Poppins. He was right lol

There is a 35 yr old celebration in Seatle, Washington called Bumbershoot and some think the word came from there because it rained so much that everyone needed umbrellas.

It is an American word and is in the dictionary.

Love & Prayers,
Linda

What do you call the thing you go swimming in? This has a different name in almost every state in Australia!!! Here we say bathers. Some people say swimmers, cozzie, swimsuit??? How about you!

Wow, interesting!

I'm originally from Texas, so all soft drinks are Cokes! lol

I too say underware for men and panties for women and Kleenex no matter what brand I use. I use the potty where I also use toilet paper. I keep food in the icebox. I wear bluejeans, even if they aren't blue. I use a washrag. I get a shopping cart at the store. The main room in the house is the living room. In my house in Carlsbad, I have 2 living rooms, so I call the one that is with the kitchen the family room. Since I have a theme for each room, I also call one living room the Chihuahua Room and the other the African-American Room. When I dress up, I wear panyhose.

Linda, We are neighbors. I'm in central California too, Visalia.

My DH says front room. I usually say living room but sometimes also say front room. Ours is combined with the dining area on one end. Someone told me that is called a "grate or great" room. I'd never heard that before.

We like to go to the coast or beach and wear our bathing suits.
