I know I have seen a recipe for icing like you are looking for. I've searched through my recipes where I thought I had it ,but havn't found it yet; I'll keep looking! It seems that the secret was shortening! If I find it I'll post it here.

Good Morning.
Now I dont necessarily have a frosing recipe like the one they make at the store.
Would it have Cream cheese in it.

Well I thought I would share a couple with you.

1/2 cup Butter or Margarine
1 pkg (8oz.) cream cheese softened
4 cups of confectioner sugar.
2 tsp. vanilla.

cream butter and cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Gradually add confectioners sugar and vanilla; beat well
I use this for Banana bread.

1/4 cup Butter
3 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
2Tbsp. rum (or 1/4 tsp rum flavoring and 2 Tbsp. milk)
Beat butter with mixer until fluffy.
Gradually add 2 cups powdered sugar beat well
Slowly add rum and Tbsp milk. Slowly beat in remaining powdered sugar. Beat in additional milk if need to reach desired consistency.

or this is the one you might like

1/3 cup soft butter, margarine or shortening. (prefer butter)
1/8 tsp Salt
About 3 cups sifted confectioners sugar.
about 1/8 to 1/4 cup milk or light cream.
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

with electric mixer at medium speed, throroughly mix butter with salt and 1 cup confectioners sugar until light and fluffy.
Add rest of sugar and milk alternately, beating till very smooth and of sreading consistency; add vanilla.
Fills and frosts 2 8" or 9" cake layers; or frosts 9x 9 x2 cake

I will continue to look.
Let me know if you still need a different one.
I have alot of recipes.
Have fun!!!!!

Do you really want to know what is in "grocery store frosting"??? It's mostly NOT butter....but, shortening....and, BAD for's butter flavor. It looks pretty....but, that's it....go to your cookbook and, get a really good frosting that uses fresh ingredients.
How do I know this? Mom took a cake decorating course years ago....and, the shortening is the trick to it. I helped her do a cake once....and, almost gagged at the amount of just plain "grease" in it....sorry...I now know that it's Not healthy for you.
Good luck;-)
