Question How do you combat Cabin Fever during the winter months?

Do you take off from your normal school routine and play games (educational, of course)? Do you put the books away and work on unit studies? Do you put school away totally and just relax for a week or two?

Do you take any family trips? Where?

Do you try to go on more field trips during the winter, to get out of the house more?

Share your ideas about combatting cabin fever with us!

Lightbulb Re: How do yu combat cabin fever during winter?

Hi! I am new here and was reading your post and here are some of the things that we do :

1. We have a list of 50 things do when it is too cold outside.
2. We bake cookies ( at least 1 new kind each month).
3. We play board games
4. I rotate my dd toys each day ( Ponies - Monday; Dolls - Tuesday; etc...)
5. We read for 20-30 minutes 2xs each day.
6. We go to the library 1-2 times each week ( we have
several branches in Ft. Wayne).
7. We have Tea Time every afternoon and listen to classical
music together.
8. We watch an old sci-fi movie each week.

We just started our new school year January 7th. We homeschool all year around ( 3 weeks on / 1 week off ) and are doing a classical education using Teaching the Trivium and The Well-Trained Mind, and started history at creation. It has given us lots to do everyday for fun!

Sorry for being so long-winded! I just enjoy being a mom and homeschooling!

This list is full of great ideas!

My kids just had 2 snow days off from school. AT 6 & 12, it's hard to keep them occupied when they are stuck inside. One day we did manage to go sledding. The other day was just ice. We met my daughter's friend at McD's so that they could play.

I love the idea of baking cookies on days like this. It's family time + it gets the kids in the kitchen to help cook & bake!

We do a lot of these things on this list in the summer, as well.
