Just starting out with 7th grade

I'm new here and to homeschooling. My plan is to teach my 12 yo and 3 yo this year. My oldest just finished 6th grade in public school however I'm not positive she is ready for 7th. I need help with pretesting and what books to read to gain more knowledge on teaching older children. Has anyone started at this age?

Hi, Donnisha24. Welcome to the forum!

I have no experience with home-schooling, but hopefully one (or more) of our trusty members will drop-by to lend their knowledge on the topic.

Hi Donnisha, welcome to FC!

I only did homeschooling one year with my tenth grade daughter, she needed to stay home due to exhaustion in her 9th grade year!

We used a combination of online coursework with an accredited school in our state for the hard classes (math, geography, science, english etc) and did self paced work for PE and Health, Art, Music.

Our school district is home-school friendly and while textbooks were hard to come by, involvement in minor classes and after school activities was easy.

My daughter grew up that year in many ways as she saw day to day what it was like to run a household. The drawback was that on her return in 11th grade, she was 'different' and surprisingly, only the delinquent groups would friend her. She had many struggles that year with finding friends who were wholesome as they were the ones most mistrustful of her 'year off.' She survived but it was hard. And this is in a homeschool friendly district.

Find a homeschool group to work with even if you need to go online. Don't try to do every subject yourself, try just one or two! the little one will follow suit.
BTW no child is ready for seventh grade, they grow up quite a bit through middle/junior high school.

Our two daughters are now graduated from college and leading nice lives if that is encouragement I hope it helps.
